Supra has been a Supply issue never a Demand

I talked to the fleet manager of the large Toyota dealer who stopped tonight when he noticed my new Supra in the driveway on his walk. Interesting conversation! There are 700 Toyota dealers across the country; and he has never had more than one Supra on his lot since its launch. Toyota wanted the advertising only but did not make any money on the Supra. So that fact sales numbers have dropped from his perspective was really the margins were not there, so corporate limited production. So it is a great car unless you are a Toyota bean counter looking at margins.

While I largely agree with the limited production, what you have relayed doesn't really make sense. If Toyota weren't making any money on the Supra from the outset, the margins were never there, no?

Who cares anyway. We have our cars and production is coming to a close in 2026. Like the MKIV, it looks like The MKV is going out with a whimper.

There was some proof of concept about 3rd party manufacturing and some exchange of technology. Given Toyotas current woes on the new v6- they didn't look under the skirt hard enough. .02

When I went to my dealer to buy my A90 in 2020, there were over 10 Supra 3.0L's on the lot. I think there were 12 or 13 at the time. They were scrambling to sell stock as the pandemic started and they needed cash. I got a super deal on mine.

Had the price settled via text in the am, phone call, test drive, paid cash, drove home that early evening.

He is saying that Toyota is losing money on each car sold, so they have reduced production of the car to reduce their losses while still getting the marketing benefits for the brand. It's a little counterintuitive because normally there are economies of scale, but it's possible that the nature of their agreements with Magna Steyr and/or BMW and the dramatic inflation over the past few years means increased scale wouldn't make a meaningful difference and would in fact just increase costs.

wow that guy was full of shit! 1200 dealers makes my math even worst per dealer. Supra's are hard to find and it is a killer car, I hope no one disagree's with that!
