Who can actually afford the new Supra?

I don't have to wait for specs to say that the GT-R will very likely be way more powerful and faster than the Supra. The Supra will be be a very good sports car but I don't think it will even beat the current GT-R in terms of performance since that one provides supercar performance. It has the corresponding price which is just lower than that of its competitors.

I've basically got two Landcruisers, a 14 for me and a 17 LX570 for my better half. I'm a definite maybe. As a matter of fact, I've been trying to engineer my last 8 years or so of car purchases to coincide with a paid off car to trade on the new Supra, but it's taken TOO LONG. I had an Infiniti M37S before my Cruiser, and a Lexus IS350 before that, and I was lining those purchases/loans up to run out when the new Supra came up. However, I was assuming it was going to be a 2+2 the whole time, I've got two kids that I could have theoretically stuffed in the back for car pool 3 years ago. Now it's a straight 2 seater, my son is 14 and taller than me. So I've got a daddy wagon Landsmasher.

I've long coveted a 911 in the 40-60k range. I was hoping the Supra could scratch that itch. I'm still holding out hope.

personally, am not planning on financing it; have been saving up; targeting around $60k for the "manual" version, should that even come to exist. Even without the manual, am definitely not getting the 1st model year or perhaps not even the 2nd MY until they hone down all the TSBs lol. I never sold a car i owned before; am too emotionally attached to them , hence I can wait ..say even for the MY2021 and then keep it well into the rest of the decade.

Especially since this looks like one of the last "enjoyable" sports cars, castrated Emotionless Vehicles (EVs) are getting too much attention from them governments

Also @Chikane might get more than one. That dude goes through cars like crazy. Had multiple S2ks and BRZs, possibly at the same time oof. Need to get on that level.

But yeah, I probably won't get one at launch because of the house purchase. Who knows though!

Lol I was considering getting an MKIV straight from Japan. One of my friends moved there and now works at an auction house. Then, I started seeing my really favorite car of all time--R34 vSpec II. But, as our amazing car laws in the states would have it, I have to wait until 2024 to purchase one. If I'm going to go old school, I'd rather get the Godzilla.

You're definitely a Supra fan man. But here in CA, it would just be a bitch wanting to upgrade, then having to downgrade just to pass smog.

Oh yeah, she's rough for sure. Been through quite a bit in her life it seems. Fair bit of body damage and even rust that will need going over. Been hit at least once, not the best of repairs. TT Auto, blown twins, but other than that, very mechanically sound (actually has GSC S1s and springs etc). I think it might have been the cheapest turbo Supra in the country, at least a running one with all the parts still on it. Paid about 10k for it, which is actually the cheapest I've ever paid for a Supra, and is absolute insanity in this day and age. Wasn't planning on buying another Supra, but when a deal like this comes around...

I will be pulling everything apart and getting this thing into OEM spec. Probably rebuild the twins, give the motor a full once over as well, then clean up the interior, get some backseats in it, and then fix the paint and body issues. Keeping it BPU and original, because there are too many built Supras these days lol.

EDIT: Oh yeah, somebody Brian-O'Connor'd the Targa at some point so it's bent lol. Will have to see it's repairable, but I'll prob just replace it.

Dude, 10K! That's a steal! I'm still trying to find a '69-'73 911 "longhood" that I want to build so I hear ya when it comes to finding the car and then the fun part of starting the teardown. Are you going to create a build thread here or on SF?

Yeah but so does everyone else. lol Prices have slightly cooled off but most asking prices are retarded. Good luck with the build. It's not that bad and you can get it back to a clean BPU in no time.

Well, I sold my 2014 Toyota Tundra 1794 and 2016 Jeep Rubicon a couple of months ago. Bought a 2012 Smart Car with 30k Miles for $5,000 so I can pay cash for the Supra. I hope I'm around long enough to see the Supra this Smart car is tiny and ohh so slow.

If rumoured Australian pricing is true (AU$100k), no, I could not afford it now without being financially irresponsible. In a couple of years, when I have paid off my mortgage, and when I was planning on moving on from my 86 into a more powerful sportscar, why yes, I could technically afford it. But whether I will, is very much dependent on how the car turns out, and what reliability reports are like after a couple of years. I am not sold on it yet, the heart of a Supra is its engine, and the heart of the A90 is Bavarian, not Japanese.

Yesterday, I would've thought you got overly exaggerated information. Today, I'm starting to believe that in N. America, the prices will soar high up. Because if a few dealers will have either huge markups or bidding wars, expect to see the final price over $100K USD.
