launch in second gear. thank me later
Not specifcally asking for launching exactly, but does this prevent the problem as far as you're aware from happening?

Only thing I didn't really try was putting the car into 2nd gear when I've had the problem but I can try it out next time if it start happening

uhh i don't experience the throttle hesitation often, almost not at all. my right foot is different than most supra owners i think, so i can't really answer that.. if it doesn't eradicate the issue, i think it'll help though!

i meant my comment for autoX. or well, enthusiastic launching

notes:
- xHP alone does not fix throttle hesitation
- when i was tuned + xHP, i never experienced hesitation

Just happened to me literally 4 times in a row in my neighborhood.

Pulled off to the side, let it finish warming up, did a couple light acceleration/full stop cycles and it then proceeded to drive perfectly fine.

Had my kid in the car too on this one so pretty annoyed. Glad I wasn’t on public roads yet.
My most recent experience with this was trying to drive off from my house after letting it warm up for a couple minutes. Before that, it was almost always shortly after leaving my driveway and trying to enter a cross street with traffic. Nothing more frustrating than trying to diagnose/fix a problem with no consistency.

Was this an official recall for Canadian market models?
it was something among some 2019-2020 supras having polymer oil pumps that were replaced with all-metal oil pumps. a no-nonsense indicator of having the plastic one was the car not being able to read oil level

Gotcha, thanks for the heads up. My 2020 is having some work done at Toyota, I'll ask them about this when I go in.

Whatever is going on it seems to be directly linked to the traction control. If you turn it off it won’t do it at all.

you can turn it back on after a few miles.

My previous 2020 has done this a number of times. Had oil pump replaced and it still did it a few more times. My newer 2023 has never done this. Not sure if its just anecdotal but that's my experience with this.

Figured I would post an update here on my progress with this.

I originally posted here in 2022 when my car first experienced this. The dealership at the time claimed they couldn't reproduce it. Fast forward to now and I have kept track of it happening with written logs and video. I recently took it back in to have it looked at and while they were unable to reproduce the stalling over the week they had it (because it's completely random), they did reproduce the throttle hesitation and dead pedal. They attempted a fix, which was some work on the coolant sensor.

Toyota corporate is taking a hard stance opposite of what the dealership/service department has in their records that nothing has been done. So now I'm back to a back and forth with them in regards to the issue.

Super fun.

I've experienced this delay with my 2021 Supra as well. I also experienced this in a significantly more severe/dangerous manner with my tuned 135i back in the day.

I recently 100% eliminated this behavior with my Supra with 2 mods.

1. A few months back I installed the Dinan turbo inlet pipe. This drastically improved throttle response.

( As a control I had the Dinan intake without the inlet for 2 months and it made little to no difference to throttle behavior.)

2. Using XHP I disabled "Standstill Decoupling. "

This completely removed throttle tip-in delay/ hesitation for me in all instances and from a stand-still the throttle tip-in behavior is accurate and instant.

Hopefully this helps!

Though I’ve never experienced it, nice to know it was likely eliminated later in production and can‘t be deactivated with that mod. Great find!

Subbing to this thread as I've experienced it in the past myself and a buddy w/ 20' Launch Edition said he had it happen to him last week. It's been a couple of months for me, so hopefully I didn't jinx myself.
