Seems like there's not much love for the A90 on reddit.

Ah, got it. I thought you were going to come back with real strong and compelling evidence on to why you wouldn't pay $500 for a GT-Four instead of an emotional response. $500, even if it needed a full resto, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Change the clutch in one, then get back to us on that lol.

After seeing the Supra in the flesh, it definitely reminds me more of the mid-90's RX-7. I saw no A80 in it. Getting back to the RX-7, I've always considered it the most attractive of the 90's Japanese sports cars. Even today, very few cars are as attractive as it still is. Too bad they had to put the rotary in it.
Agreed about the most beautiful and rotary bit, but' its not the FD you are seeing in the mk5, it's the 2000gt with the mk4s haunches/quaters added to it.

Not gonna lie, I had to look it up to see what you were talking about. :D We're talking about $500 for a GT4 bro! That shit can have a burnt clutch, I'll still fix it. :drive:

I'm not going to say it's easy but I just helped my friend drop the engine out of his 911/996 to replace the IMS bearing. German and Italian labor tax is real. Thank goodness for Youtube Certified DIY vids.

To me it has similar curves to the RX7, similar organic shape, although the details and sharp edges definitely are not. The narrow waisted, wide at the hips and shoulders look, and greenhouse shape all are reminiscent of the RX7, although I understand the claim is that the 2000GT was an influence.

Agreed, it is reminiscent, I'm just saying there is no influence from the rx7 there. The mk5 rear shape is what you get when you take the 2000gts greenhouse and side profile and then slap the mk4s quarters and duck bill lip on the end of the hatch, then exaggerate everything.

The later GT4s spec something like 19 to 21 hours in the dealers labor guide to do the clutch in them. They are awesome cars, I go to a meet every year with a stack of them from every gen, but they are mega cramped under the skin. They are a pretty notorious for being hell to work on.

As an enthusiast vehicle they are a little odd too as they aren't really good at much of anything other then destroying gravel back roads at break net pace, which most surving examples of are too nice to do that too. They're too heavy to be really good at autox or circuit racing. Their drivetrains and electronics aren't designed to conquer all on pavement like a GTR or Evo. They are too rare and parts too expensive to make into a serious drag car like Eclipses used to be. Also the engines are only 2.0l and heat management and drivetrain durability keep them from chasing really high power figures. Anyways they are super cool and decent at most things when modded up a bit, just not great at anything. It would have been really interesting if Toyota had continued developing them in the 2000s and tried to keep up with the Evos and STIs. With the tech of that era they could have become really epic. But of course that was a dark era for Toyota.

What car are you talking about, the Porsche, RX7, or new Supra?

The power output figure comparisons always get me. Export U.S./UK/Europe/General Supra MKIV's were advertised with 320hp and 315ft-lbs of torque (at the crank) but totally stock the engines dyno anywhere between 290whp-310whp and 285 ft-lbs or higher at the wheels. It's regularly been stated that the output of Export MKIV TT's was underrated. They're closer to 340hp-350hp (crank) stock with a bit more torque than just the advertised 315 ft-lbs.

I recently ran a correctly broken in Stage 2 clutch kit in my Lexus (with a stock USDM 2JZGTE) that was supposed to handle 365 ft-lbs of torque. Due to both heat buildup on the organic-copper disc from the two turbos and the clamping force of that clutch I was getting slippage after 1,000 miles of break-in. I needed to go to a Stage 3 clutch to reliably hold the actual power output of the engine on its factory boost setting of 10-12 psi. Whatever the Export 2JZ-GTE engine's exact actual stock power and torque ratings are they are definitely higher than the official 320hp/315ft-lbs figures.

Similarly the MKV's 3.0L B58 single turbo is advertised at 335hp and 365ft-lbs. The torque is impressive and I suspect that this engine is also making more than its officially advertised horsepower. It's only so much lighter than an MKIV and even with the efficient ZF automatic transmission it would still need to be making a bit more than its officially advertised horsepower by even a small degree in order to hit its low 4.1 second 0-60 time.

Yeaaaahhhhhh I was gonna go with IJM for my Mk4 resto, but I think I just found my new green
Sorry to hit reverse so hard, but quick thing.

@Guff how does Lotus Racing Green Metallic compare to the Hakone Edition Green on the Toyota 86? You've seen both in the metal, thoughts?
