Contrary to popular belief, EV owners *can* own multiple vehicles, including ICE cars!
I do, but only because I can't give up my drop top MX5. One thing to consider is that living in an area with ideal conditions for any vehicle does not mean that living in an area that is known for extreme weather enables the same choices. This is partially why gas vehicles are still much more popular than EVs. Many folks who can afford only one all-weather vehicle would likely not buy an EV, just as they wouldn't choose a Supra. They probably would choose an ICE vehicle.

I have the Supra because people can have gas (ICE) cars and EVs and enjoy the benefits of both at the same time.

that misconception that Car enthusiasts HAVE to hate EVs or that EV lovers HAVE to hate ICE cars is not very sophisticated.

the Supra in the track, on a Sunday driving.

the Plaid Monday to Friday.

Is as simple as that.
I don't hate EVs. I would hate driving a car that every third person on the road has, or a car that looks like every other vehicle model that manufacturer makes.

Perhaps you have not encountered a Lucid Sapphire. According to Car & Driver magazine writers/vehicle testers, the Sapphire is the EV king of VIR in their overall list of fastest track times. Of course, it is well behind the McLaren Senna, but that is a very expensive car.
Yeah. I tested a Lucid. Is a nice concept car. Their revenue is negative by billions. Every car they sold, they sold at a staggering loss of hundreds of thousands invested in R&D.

beyond they fact that is a failed company, like Fisker (they had the most beautiful prototype ever built for an electric car), they have no supercharging infrastructure. Tesla’s is the best charging infrastructure for travel. No other gets close.

don’t get me wrong, I hate Elon. I think is an idiot. But Teslas are above and beyond anything EV offered in North America. BYD (their only competition) will never be sold here.

now regarding the fact that all cars look the same. All car models from every manufacturer are like that. If you’d ever have enough Supra’s on the road it will be the same. The same 4 colors.

that’s why I wrap them, modify them and make them stand out.

I did the same with my Supra. I dint want it to look like any other Supra on the road.

- Assisted driving. This one is a godsend. I live in a huge city, my daily commute is 15 miles on an average of 45 min at peak hour traffic. That stop and go that people neglect to mention when they buy manual cars? I set the autopilot and the car takes care of it. Very accurate. I haven’t taken over in about a month.

- I have a teenager daughter. Is her first car. Because of the points above, and the fact that I can set parental controls on the car (limit speed, acceleration, curfew) this is the perfect car for a family.
This is why my kids are gonna learn to drive in a 2003 Wrangler manual. I don't want them to get comfortable with all these assists out of the gate. The cable-throttled, horrible-shifter, mind-of-its own-steering, analog-everything, too-noisy-for-phone-calls, WWII-suspensioned shitbox...IS PERFECT to learn on. Sure, they'll have newer stuff afterwards, but initially, something you actually DRIVE, and learn raw skills. Plus, it'll make them truly appreciate the luxuries of the modern vehicle we replace it with.

I am a trauma surgeon.

lat year I had a patient, she is probably 19 by now.

her dad wanted her to learn in an old car. She did and that was her first car. An old jeep.

until she crashed it, she rear ended a tow truck.

that old car’s steering wheel was a column, old time, not electric one.

the thing got disengaged from the chasis and hit her neck.

she is a partial quadriplegic now.

Old cars are extremely unsafe. Not where I want my daughter on. By the way. She drives stick shift. After she learned the basics of driving I borrowed a manual stick shift and she learned.

People on the internet deal too much in absolutes.

EDIT: she learned on the Supra! That was her first driving experience.

Heartwarming. This story is an absolute if I ever heard one but it supports your point, so go you. ?

Tesla sold 830,000 model Ss in 2024.
Toyota sold 2545 Supras.
There is no comparison when it comes to which is more common. Supras are very rare, indeed.

The EVs might have an advantage in acceleration but 99% of the drivers here in Seattle just drive them below the speed limit. I get stuck behind them camping in the left lane daily. What’s the point of all that performance if they never use it.

No need, as I am perfectly happy with my Supra. Side note: I much prefer mechanical knobs and switches, as well as mechanical keyboards for computer use. BMW seems to be going in the wrong direction in this regard.

they are probably using the assisted driving. You can tell when the cars are on autopilot.

but the great acceleration is not for racing on the highway. Where it shows is on the normal driving you do:

green light is coming, you are in the front and you need to pass to another lane?

line me up with any gas car, put a Lambo, a Ferrari or a Bugatti, they will all stay behind when I take off.

Need to overtake a “fast car on the highway? Just press the go pedal and everyone is tiny on your rear view mirror.

the beauty of the EV motor is how instantaneous it is. There is no spoiling, no compression, no delay, no shifting. It just goes.

obviously there is just a slight wheeezzz, nothing loud or sexy about it, but very elegant, precise, and terribly fast when you need it.
Is just *different*

THats cool. Didn't ask for all this, though.
