Anyone remember this post?
Lol we wrote this off so quick when it first came up.

I really wouldn't mind if they came out with a more expensive track version (ie Cayman S) below the GRMN (ie Cayman GT4)

I think the deal toyota has with bmw is really tight lipped. The supra is getting lots of publicity and the z4 is not. Toyota is riding this thing out carefully not to piss bmw off. Eggshells is the Motto for toyota right now

Maybe I'm the only one interpreting it this way, but I think he means the current car that is coming to market is 385bhp and not talking about the GRMN version or a mid cycle refresh. This could also just be an easter egg for us from Toyota. @Guff did the car feel more powerful than the stated 335hp... say perhaps more like a BPU Supra with the boost turned up a bit?
Yeah the car is definitely faster feeling than 335hp, but I mostly attributed that to the 365lbft at 1600rpm, since that's what really makes the car "feel" fast. It does rev to 7000 tho, so idk... We'll get one on a dyno and see.

Just to note since the M2 came up in this thread, the main reason the more powerful M2 Competition was released was due to emissions. The M2 is a low volume car and it was much cheaper for BMW to just install the 405hp engine from M3 rather than spend the money to update its original 365hp engine to meet the new emissions regulations. A pretty nice way to gain a standard 40hp bump.

Does it really matter if it comes with 335hp or 385hp if it's the same engine with just a different manifold? If the difference in price is 8-9k wouldn't it make more sense to get the 335hp version and tune it to 385hp or even more for a fraction of that cost?

I also feel Toyota is planning to provide some serious aftermarket performance parts which could lead to a 50hp increase after a higher flowing exhaust, intake and a "recalibration file" just like how they recalibrate the ECU on their trucks after a supercharger install.

Agree and if it's like the Z4 then the 385hp comes with the same 365 ft lbs of torque as the 335hp version.... Even the simplest B58 piggy back tunes (for BMW models) have 50hp + 50-60 ft lbs (not saying I recommend them) so it should be an easy exercise for any decent tuner to get you those figures (with or w/o simple mods like intake & high flow cat & exhaust) without compromising the reliability.

On another note, anyone else notice the car below comes with a cloth interior?!:hmm: Not a fan of leather, would have preferred cloth....

Remember how they showed there was room for extra struts under the hood, vents could be made functional, bracing for a wing is already in place? That will probably be utilized in this version for the extra $. It won't be JUST 60 HP.

60 hp with a turbo that isn't maxed is easily attainable. Sometimes it only takes a couple psi to get there to depending on where the turbo is happy with efficiency.

Toyota tunes engines with boost very conservative. The 5.7 tundra supercharger kit for example. Bullydog made 93hp with the same octane fuel.

The base car has Alcantara seats, and yes they're way better than the leather!

Also, I'm gonna get to the bottom of this guys. Give me a little time.

Yeah I know, would have preferred Alcantara over leather, but my dealer said it isn't possible. Anyway, just mentioning that the car posted is indicating "Stoff" upholstery which is German for cloth.

Would be interesting to see if the torque figures remain the same (like the z4) in a possible 385hp version. If so, I question if people subjectively will notice a big difference.

Agreed, all this tune would do is essentially give the car a little more grunt above ~5500rpm, thus bringing up the horsepower. I believe the car currently makes 365 lbft from 1600rpm to roughly 5000rpm, totally flat torque curve (aka artificially limited)
