@Guff can you ask Tada san if he plans on using at least one electric motor on the Supra?since the ZF8 has semi-hybrid capabilities
He said "No Hybrid for Supra". His reasoning was that battery tech just isn't there for him to get the car as light as he wants at the price he wants. When the tech moves forward, then he'll consider it.

The upcoming M3 with manual transmission is 470-500 hp in base and competition spec. I wonder if Tada san is referring to the nature of the tuning aspect of this car, like being able to handle 700-1000hp+ mods?? Hmmmmm
If he is being that picky, then the only longitudinal manual transmission out there that would satisfy Tada would be a Tremec out of a Hellcat or a Corvette (TR-6060/6070). But even those have their reliability issues (at +650 lbft nonetheless) and I'm not sure how a Japanese Motor company with a European manufactured car is going to make a deal with a North American Transmission manufacturer.

On the bright side, the ZF 8HP should be bullet proof if it met Tada's expectations when a 500HP rated manual transmission didn't.

^^ The Tremec TR6060ā€™s aftermarket equivalent, the Magnum, is rated for a *constant* 700 ft-lbs. Iā€™d think the clutch choice would be the potential weakest link for that transmission. Some Supra MKIV people are now switching to that transmission over the hard to find parts for Getrag V160.

It would be very interesting if Tada went to Tremec to get an OEM version made to his specs. No reason to believe that he has but it would be amazing if he did.

so... forgetting that "it's a bmw" [insert eye roll here], what does he actually think about how good (or not) the car is?
Why are you rolling your eyes? He loves BMW's.

His review is the one I can't wait to see. I'm looking forward to his blunt comments and British humor.

I very much like his reviews as well (don't always agree, but that's life), that's why I want to hear wtf he thinks about the drive, not hear him whinging that "it's a BMW". Duh.
