don't care much about what it was called tbh, am super excited for the final product! short wheelbase'd, potent engine'd, pure internal combustion RWD. "Supra" is fine by me. but alternatively, they could've also called it 4000GT (a successor to the 2000GT, which was made by Yamaha... for Nissan.....then Toyota poached it).
in fact, 3000GT was the original name of the car later known as "Supra". Mitsubishi patented the name first for their Dodge Stealth's alter-ego, hence Toyota had to come up with something else, and that was "Supra".

Heck even simply A90 was fine, akin to how the ZN6 got the AE86's model name.

Uhhhhhh, the A80 is not the first Supra. Note the 80 part. Third Supra dude, there was no Mitsubishi 3000gt in 1978. And no there was never a plan to call the mk4 the 3000gt, again note the chassi code.

Also your history on the 2000gt is totally wrong too. Read up on it.

When did I say a BMW's interior is bad? When did I say an Avalon's interior is nicer than a BMW's? No one is complaining about anything. All I am saying is that reviewing a car should describe the car more than what is in the brochure. I can see it uses BMW parts and read through the features, but I can not judge quality through the brochure.

The statement "interior quality on par with what you see in an Avalon" is a statement saying that nothing in the interior is cheap feeling and rattling while I drive and I also know not to expect an S class. It isn't even comparing it to BMW, just making a relative statement to give the audience an idea of what it is like. Harris' review did nothing of this nature any only told me it has bmw this and bmw that, which I could already see.
Uhh...I never said you did? Chill out my man.

Allso I didn't even bother to read Harris's review as I can't stand the guy and could care less about his opinion. Like you said, the car has a BMW interior which is a good thing. That means no rattles and squeaks while driving. I'd much rather have that over a Toyota made interior any day of the week. Not to say they can't make a good one like they do in their Lexus models. But if they did that along with creating everything from the ground up as a Toyota, we wouldn't be seeing the final product so soon and it certainly wouldn't have gone for $50k.

I don't get why people are complaining. This isn't a car Toyota needed to make. They are happy selling Prius's, RAV4's, Tundra's and Camry's to the masses. This is a car they wanted to make. They know it's not gonna sell all that well. People like Chris Harris and Doug Demuro should be happy that we are getting a brand new relatively affordable gas powered sports car in the sea of crossovers and electric vehicles. Screw them if they say "it's a BMW". As if that's a bad thing lol.

I love BMW interiors and if Toyota had anything to do with designing the one of the 86 then be glad they didn't this time around. It would've been a waste of time and money for Toyota to have designed their own!

As far as a manual just remember that the 8 speed will always churn out better times because of the quick shifting and launch control. I wouldn't have the launch of the new Supra any other way. Most (if not all) complaints I have read aren't too sophisticated or well thought out. The haters will be drown out by new and potential owners by the end of the year.

Hopefully going to Porsche in the next couple of weeks for a test drive in the lead up to the Supra drive so I can make a proper comparison.
Exactly how it should be done!

I hope you take some time to present your reviews here.

@SupraFiend with all due respect I am not sure why you stick around other than to antagonize people.

This forum is dedicated to the MKV and you don't seem to be a fan.
Well, I came here to follow along, with a community, the release of a new Supra. For as long as I've been into these cars (over 20 years), I still didn't get to be involved in something like this when the mk4 was released. I discovered it in 93 when it came out, but there was no internet like we have today back then and it certainly didn't have a drawn out prerelease anything like what we've gone thru in the last couple years (and I hadn't discovered the older cars at the time yet either). The pre release has been a lot of fun to follow along with everyone! Unfortunately the car is not quite what I was hoping for.

I guess the single biggest issue I have with the mk5, is they came so damn close. I'd like to be able to hate it and forget it, or to love it. But they did so much right but screwed up some things I'm really having trouble getting over. I'm at a point in life where I could swing buying one of these new. It's not in the long term budget, but damn it, I wanted Toyota to make a new Supra so damn good I would have to get one when I could still swing it. If I could buy a mk2 or mk4 new today, I would. So the car just frustrates me at this point, but I will keep an eye on it. Maybe in sub sequent model years they will fix a few of the things that bug me so much and the car will prove to be reliable and a big success and I'll just have to get one. I guess we'll see.

Mostly I hang around still just to he part of a Supra forum that is vibrant and hasn't been utterly destroyed by Facebook like all of the others. The software on this board is great too, makes it so easy to check in and out on my phone while commuting unlike the old boards.

Also, to antagonize people too of course :)

^^^So you're basically here to vent your frustration about the MKV because you don't agree with what Toyota did on a forum dedicated to the very same car? I'm a MKIV owner and joined forums here to keep up with mods etc...because I want to see how it will do. Do I wish Toyota did it differently yes but I won't come here just to make a point where the majority are actually fans of the car. Maybe start a anti MKV forum or bash elsewhere??
