I got the name "Anti MKV MKIV Club".
What bugs you about the car? Probably no manual I would assume.
I don't care for the diffuser/front lip or whatever it is on the front bumper, but it is a 2020 so I accept it might look a little boy racer. I just hate for us to go around in circles beating a dead horse over the partnership with BMW or no manual ATM. Seemed like you we're busting balls earlier in the week and I was compelled to join because well I like to bust balls to and dish out some banter alone with it.
Anyways I apologize I feel like I was being a little hostile, but I hate for the lot of us to continue to go around in circles, repeating, and nitpicking on a daily basis. I guess some of us, including myself, will have to accept that the car isn't universally accepted. Regardless, she is high on my wish list for next year. My G37 will be paid off by then and my wife will hand it over and buy herself a daily. My aunt bought two 300ZXs new and still has them both have well under 100k (86 NA and 92 TT), I'd like a Z of my own, but it be quite ridiculous to have a G35, G37, and a 370Z don't you think? All are outdated. Couldn't give up my awd G37 for a Z.
So I'm glad to be a part of the group too and I hope the community continues to thrive and grow. I appreciate your presence and look forward to the coming months and years I'll strongly consider a second model year if the quality is in our with the rest of the Toyotas and BMWs. I'm a fan of the B58.
He's got as much of a right to be here as the rest of us. But, you speak for many of us and let's not feed the troll. I hate for us to continue with this pissing contest nobody is going to change his opinion I'm going to do my best to ignore much of the disapproval on here. We all should.
"I'm looking at you, Mr Harris!"
Here is the best review I've read on the car so far. Some key takeaways ;
The power delivery from BMW B58's turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine is superb. And more generally, that it’s a great f-ing sports car. As for the ever-important and often amorphous enthusiast checklist of lightweight, fun to drive, and relatively cheap, the new Supra has every box ticked off.
Lightweight? The Supra’s 3,372-pound frame is a considerable 300 pounds lighter than BMW’s own M2, the Ford Mustang EcoBoost, and 100 pounds lighter than Chevrolet’s Camaro Turbo 1LE. Check. Fun to drive? According to Car and Driver, not only is it quicker to 60 mph than the BMW M2 Competition, Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, and Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, but based on those who’ve driven it, the Supra is more easily drifted than anything BMW or Toyota has come up with in years.
And it is widely accepted that the M2 is the current most fun BMW you can buy right now. Some food for thought there. Oh and the Supra is pulling 1.07 g. That is GT3 territory people.
I'd actually go a step further—and likely enrage those same online trolls—by saying that in my eyes, the new Supra is a true successor to BMW’s legendary and truly iconic E30 M3.
F*ck yeah. Bring on the trolls and haters like Chris Harris and Doug Demuro.
There’s no way to please everyone all of the time, but those vocal few who’ve wanted BMW to return to its roots need to take a long hard look at the Supra
Perfectly said. Chris Harris and everyone else complaining on how it's "just a BMW" can go f*ck off. It's a brand new sports car. Be happy you are getting that from Toyota instead of another crossover SUV or some electric car garbage. All it needs now is a manual
Sorry but who are you now? Have you driven the car? Are you a journalist? Were you invited to the press tour of the car with all the others who posted on YT? Or are you just comparing yourself to Chris Harris without even sitting in the car let alone having driven it?
To be totally fair, this doesn’t sound like a review either- doesn’t sound like the author has actually driven it. It sounds more like an op ed based on what he has read on other sites.
True everyone has a right to be here I guess but this car is on it's way regardless and the complaining, whining and bitching has gotten old. Is this the future of this forum where the complainers will continue to make their presence known? I can only imagine when the first ones have issues as with any new product release and how they will salivate with excitement just to say I told you so. I personally hate the looks and size of the R35 GTR but I didn't join their forums to continually voice my displeasure about that. In the age of CUV's, ride share and pending driver less cars I'm happy to see a new Sports car released.
This really goes to show that being able to write an automotive journal article doesn't qualify someone as a good driver. These reviewers will bring it up the 335hp power as a representation of performance yet ignore the car has similar torque numbers and can pull more lateral Gs on the skidpad as the universally praised GTR. There are just reading the stats off the back of the metaphorical baseball car and writing their script beforehand.
That's exactly what Chris Harris does. Read specs and drift the car. He was entertaining when he was doing it on Youtube a few years ago. But once he came on Top Gear and brought that same formula, he clearly didn't fit in anymore. That Youtube style of making car videos doesn't work on Top Gear and for that reason, I hated watching him on the show. Plus he got really annoying. Matt Le Blanc was so much better than him. Hated the other guy Rory Reid too.
And good point on the GTR comment. I didn't even think of that. And to think this is just the base car. We are obviously getting a higher end/track version later down the line. And they are only going to improve the car from here on out so it will only get faster. And yet people will still complain on how it's a "hardtop Z4" LMAO.
Another article to add.
Wow - thanks for posting, good read. I for one am glad this car exists and ticks many many boxes.
First of all that blue looks drop dead gorgeous. Wow. Not a fan of the white but I am torn between blue, dark grey, silver and the phantom matte silver when it comes to the colors of the car.
Now with that out of the way, what Tada says is so true. If they made their own engine, chassis, suspension and built the car from scratch, it wouldn't have been available for sale this year. And no way would have it cost $50k. It would have been easily $100k plus with a bepsoke engine, chassis, and platform. And Toyota would have a very hard time selling it. I mean look at the new NSX. Those things are sitting all over dealer's lots with insane price cuts and yet people aren't buying them. The partnership with BMW allowed them to release the car as quickly as possible with an affordable price tag enough for them to move cars off lots. Sure they will still lose money on it but not as much as they would've if they designed the car from the ground up. And it makes sense. The Supra, while a halo sports car as it stands right now, wasn't meant to be a $100k plus supercar or super sports car.
Yup. The car is a much better drivers car than a M2...BMW's current best drivers car. That's saying a lot. It's certainly gonna be more fun than a M3/M4/M5/M6 since those have gotten way too heavy, big, bloated and filled to the brim with electronics where they aren't the drivers cars anymore like they used to be with the E30 M3 and E39 M5. Are those cars fast? Sure. But lack character IMO. Not to mention the Supra is more affordable and any M car. And to think this is just the base model. We are no doubt gonna get a hotter track version down the road. Like I said, all it needs is a 6 speed which I have no doubt is coming.
In March this year I almost bought a M2 Competition, held of buying the BMW and bought a Toyota 86 to toy around with and track instead. I held of more so in anticipation of the new AMG 45S specs to be announced which didn't happen and hasn't official happened as yet .
However after the Supra launch it now feels like I dodged a bullet by not buying the M2 Comp and the Supra GTS has gone to the top of my list. This is due to Supra's performance and weight, which is built on a dedicated platform.
I am really looking forward to comparison reviews between the Supra, Cayman, M2C and A110 - I have a feeling while not besting the P-Car in handling dynamics the new Supra will put up a good showing in this segment.
And agree hot versions will be coming down the track.
