I would love to see a comparison with US-spec cars, as the US Z4 dynos higher than the US Supra by 30-40HP. I don't think that is the case for the euro-spec cars.

Cant wait for a tune on this mkv. This thing will be in the 11 second territory. I'm impressed. Toyota as most of us know did their homework on this car. Haters will hate until the aftermarket makes it so they cant and that wont be long. It will be an aftermarket frenzy of parts. Long live the Supra. The mkv following will come.

S219. 34 hp if I remember right. Tq is nearly identical. I think the supra manages power/traction better it looks like. It probably wont keep pulling in the top end like it did. It beat it pretty good considering its suppose to be the same car.

I would expect the Z4 aerodynamics to be worse at higher speeds (it looks like more of a brick) but that's just a suspicion (has anyone published drag coefficient for either car?). It wouldn't matter in a 1/4 mile but at higher speeds it could become a factor.

Told ya bitches. That Supra dragged the Z4. HA! I am waiting for Jason Cammisa to publicly apologize for his stupidity. :)

I. FUCKING. SAID. IT. ALL. ALONG. THOSE HOES GOT THEIR ASSES NAILED. THAT'S TOYOTA POWER. ALL OF MY WORDS HAVE BEEN BACKED UP TIME AND TIME AGAIN. SO FUCK THOSE YOUTUBE COMMENTERS. FUCK MOTORTREND COMMENTERS. FUCK CAR AND DRIVER COMMENTERS. AND FUCK CHRIS HARRIS. YEEEEAHHHHH!!

It was hilarious how the internet STARTED a war with us, and we ended it by giving them the biggest bitch slap in the face LOL.

This calls for a toast y'all. To the new MkV Supra (even if it was codeveloped with BMW, because that isn't necessarily a bad thing at all)!!
Imagine that, Toyota helps BMW upgrade their suspension after beating them at SPA....only to end up beating them:hmm:

Toyota did say the ECU calibration for the engine and transmission is unique to the Supra, but almost no one on the Internet believed it and kept calling it "iT's JuSt A rEbAgGe Z4", and now those people can suck it.

The slightly longer stopping distance when compared to the Z4 could be caused by cold brake pads. As Motor Trend found out during testing the Supra's brakes like to have a bit of heat in them to reach peak performance.

I am very satisfied! In you're face haters...

I don't think in reality the us z4 is quicker than the EU version, so in fact the supra and us z4 should be around the same level of performance.

Maybe even with a tiny tiny bit advantage for the supra.

I said it early 2019, the supra will show the people what its capable of.

Yes, but Toyota did not do the ECU programming -- make sure you understand that. It's different, in the sense that there are at least two dozen different programs for the B58. But to take this as a sign that Toyota is doing something better would be extremely naive. In reality, this result is no different than pitting various B58-equipped BMW models against each other. Different B58 tunes and different models. Not Toyota vs. BMW. The only reason I bring this up is because there can be an insufferable amount of attitude on the forum, both lamenting BMW's involvement and lauding ill-perceived Toyota influence. It's a great car and we don't have to get into a BMW vs. Toyota debate.

Euro-spec M40i and Supra 3.0 models are both somewhat de-tuned compared to their US counterparts, and much closer in performance. I would love to see this comparison run in US-spec models. I'd also love to see it done with the Supra running its rated 87 octane and then again with higher octane (that is another major difference in the B58 tunes of both cars here in the US).

Although the cars are sharing the same chassis and engine, yet they’re completely different. Two different heads.
I believe I read somewhere or saw in the interviews that the two companies took separate ways in the development of the two cars. That’s the Supra’s chassis said is stiffer than the LFA’s and the Z4 isn’t.
Plus, Tada-San said they took a different route in tuning the car and the engine, it’s said to be Japanese-like in terms of power delivery and performance.
Toyota did their homework well

The companies only parted ways on the styling and suspension tuning. The rest is all BMW, again, about the same if it was another BMW model. The engine is all BMW but the ECU tune was done to meet Toyota's specs (not by Toyota). Any differences in the engine are the same as you'd find between B58 variants within BMW's own model lineup (the Supra actually has a lot more in common with the Z4 than some BMWs do with their own cousins).

Toyota's involvement in the car has been overstated, as has BMW's influence. There is a ton of misinformation, not helped by bizarre lost-in-translation statements from Toyota. None of this is a bad thing, either way -- I love the car regardless (aside from lack of MT).

s219. I guess we are confused because we have been told time and time again Toyota tuned this engine. I understand now. I'm still confused why BMW switched to the non headifold design for u.s. spec z4. Is the exhaust still water cooled like the supras?

The B58C and the B58D are not the same. Very different yet the same.

It’s not a difficult question. The B58C has a headifold with water cooling, the B58D has a manifold without. The heads are different to support the different exhaust strategies.

"12.0" vs. "12.5" based on what..? V-box, stop watch, counting one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand...? :dunno: One car was slightly quicker than the other, one stopped slightly ahead of the other. The rest of the "data" or rather lack thereof was a joke. A quarter mile comparo without out any of the other supporting contextual data is BS content for the superficial nouveau car guy.
