I just today picked up my 2020 Supra (supposedly stock), 1 owner, and only 10k miles. I drove home for 3.5 hours with a big smile on my face from the dealer with no issues at all. I parked at my friend's place to pick him up for a ride but when I put it in park and revved the engine for a few seconds it immediately started smoking (from the engine not exhaust). I could smell it from inside the car immediately and also got a overheat warning. I called the dealer who told me it's probably just something wet that got stuck inside and to just take it to a shop tomorrow to see what they say (I didn't really peak around because I wouldn't know what to look for). I drove it home and got another warning saying power was reduced and its driveable but I need to get it serviced... I'm trying not to stress out right now and am hoping this is just a minor issue, but I can't help but think I purchased a lemon.. I thought the whole point of these cars was a good balance of reliability, look, driving experience.. Can someone chime in?

That sucks.

That's all I have to chime in.

Have a look at both cooling system levels.

I’m having my mechanic take a look today. I keep having people tell me it’s likely not a big deal…Is this not a big red flag? Even if it’s not a major issue is this engine not showing signs of unreliability at an early stage?

I had a similar problem with my 2020. Smoke from the engine bay when revving, overheat and "generator not charging" warning. Turned out to be the serpentine belt ring on the harmonic balancer had failed and was grinding rubber, hence causing the smoke, and overheat since the waterpump no longer was spinning.
This happened at just 11k miles.

And it’s been fine since?

Yes, it works perfectly now, after I installed a new harmoic balancer.

I made a thread about this here:
https://www.supramkv.com/threads/slipping-serpentine-belt-broken-crank-pulley-harmonic-damper.22242/

But have you checked the coolant level yet? Might be that it is low on coolant, but that would also be strange at only 10k miles.
Turns out it needs a head gasket replacement. Is this something I should be worried about? I’m concerned it’s had this problem at only 10k miles

Did the original dealer have any kind of warranty that would cover this? Can your mechanic tell if something temporary was done to cover up the gasket issue?

I think most state laws require the dealer to have some kind of short warranty to keep them from selling a car with a blown headgasket or other expensive issue knowingly or unknowingly.

I’ll be honest, OP, if the headgasket really is blown or leaking - I would have the dealer take the car back and void the sale. Look for another car.

100% agreed. I would never take permanent ownership of a car with a blown HG if I can help it. That car has been beaten to shit.
