return it. If they don't let you, sue themTurns out it needs a head gasket replacement. Is this something I should be worried about? I’m concerned it’s had this problem at only 10k miles

Coolant is fine but it needs a new head gasket. Really. Interesting.Yea coolant is fine
Jesus Christ, I was really hoping for milder responses…I guess the head gasket is a sign of major issue? They had an exchange policy of 150 miles or 3 days. Someone else said I should sue if they don’t let me return…I’m kind of freaking out right now. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? The car has a 90 day powertrain warranty and I also purchased the extended, bumper to bumper warranty for 5 years. The dealer is in PA but I live in MD so not sure about what state rules applyI think most state laws require the dealer to have some kind of short warranty to keep them from selling a car with a blown headgasket or other expensive issue knowingly or unknowingly.
The dealership provided me with a clean carfax. Is there a way to check whether major issues were covered up besides taking it to a good mechanic? Also is there a way to confirm the mileage on this?this is obviously a bad car, possibly with mileage above what it's showing. Did you run a carfax to check the history. I would "unwind" this deal as soon as possible.
Also Toyota has a 5 year 60k miles warranty from the factory, you can see what Toyota says.
I appreciate the optimism but everyone else has had a very different opinion…I also got the car because of mod potential but I’d be extremely reluctant to do that now due to potentially voiding the warranty. You wouldn’t be worried about the integrity of the engine in my situation?Relax. Fix it under warranty and enjoy the next five years under warranty. And then sell it.
if you can unwind the deal and return the car, I would do that. If you can't, then pursue the warranty with Toyota. It does seem odd a car would have a blown head gasket at only 10k miles. So hopefully Toyota covers the damage, they won't cover it if it was damaged due to Mods from previous owner.I appreciate the optimism but everyone else has had a very different opinion…I also got the car because of mod potential but I’d be extremely reluctant to do that now due to potentially voiding the warranty. A blown head gasket is always a major problem.I guess the head gasket is a sign of major issue?
Yea I guess warranty and modding is contradictory but I was gonna run it for about a year or two to see how things go before modding. 5 years is probably longer than I should’ve got but it is bumper to bumper so maybe it’ll come in handy in other parts of the car.I may have misunderstood but I read this was purchased from a dealer and also purchased a five year extended warranty. To me that means a Toyota dealer and a Toyota Care warranty. If that’s the case then it should be covered since it was sold by a Toyota dealer as a stock vehicle.
Have it repaired using the warranty you paid for and then drive the snot out of it for five years knowing you’re covered should anything else break. If a Toyota dealer sells you what is supposed to be a stock vehicle along with an extended warranty and then Toyota tries to deny coverage that’s when you escalate or even get a lawyer involved. Unless the car currently has mods installed though I just can’t see that happening. And they wouldn’t be able to sell it as a stock vehicle in that case.
Again, this is assuming you did not intend to mod which, if you did, then why buy the warranty. Also, I’m assuming this is not a car you intend to “keep forever” which many times doesn’t happen even when you think you want to. If five years is long enough then drive the hell out of it and have fun.
if you wanted to mod you wouldn’t have purchased a five year extended warranty.
I brought it into a nearby Toyota service center and that’s what they initially told me but I just spoke to them again and they apologized and reassured me it’s just a cracked valve cover. Please tell me this is a much more minor issueWho said it was a blown HG?

It is, indeed. Please tell me this is a much more minor issue
OK thats fairly easy and a million miles from a blown HG. I had pretty strong suspicions that the original diagnosis was wide of the mark esp when the issue is under hood smoke and the coolant levels are fine.I brought it into a nearby Toyota service center and that’s what they initially told me but I just spoke to them again and they apologized and reassured me it’s just a cracked valve cover.
