I guess that's hard to say but it isn't a totally comfortable situation. Apart from the extra power to drive the pump there could also be issues with the pumps drive longevity. Things aren't necessarily designed to work at maximum output permanently.So how long can we technically "live with" the default high pressure scenario before it becomes detrimental to the engine? Until the CEL comes on?
Not being able to measure the oil is annoying but not scary since I haven't burned or lost any oil in my 5 years of ownership and do religious oil changes myself once a year. (I only drive like 4000 miles a year.)
If only we had a normal dipstick... Don't worry, not gonna start a new oil thread.![]()
I think if I had an affected car and not going to flip it in 3 years but keep it for a while I'd be checking the pump output scheduling at every oil change. Can be done via the OBD port and Bimmerlink I'm pretty sure. No doubt others will correct me if I'm wrong on that
