Update:

Got my RE Short Shifter and Rear Carrier Bushing installed, feels good. Nice, crisp, notchy and no BMW Rubbery feeling. Installed at Speed Logic.

Side Note:

I have a Billetzwork Shift Knob with adapter, it does cause the shift knob to sit a little bit higher than with the OEM knob, but the RE Short Shifter does lower it a bit compared to stock.

Nice man, are the shifts any shorter or just more crisp/precise?

Do you know about how long it took or how much work it was? I've seen only one video on it and it looks do-able but kind of a pain in a home garage, that a lift would be far better.

Just under 2 hours.

I was gonna DIY, had the car on 4 jacks. I'm laying there removing the panels and heat shield, look straight up and said nah, lemme just pay to get it done lol. It's a tight space. I do have an HKS exhaust, so I could remove that one piece for more space but I just didn't wanna DIY at that point.

Nope. I have a weighted shift knob and it would feel different anyway, even with a new short shifter. But it feels firm and notchy. Everything feels and works the way you’d expect a short shifter and new bushings would.

How much was the install? I wish they’d make one with a threaded end so we could just unscrew the shift knobs

So I installed the Rogue engineering (G8X) rear carrier bushing today. I'm definitely pleased with the product build quality.

Install wasn't too bad on jack stands and I managed to get it replaced without having to remove the exhaust or driveshaft. I took out the rear brace that goes over the exhaust (rear two bolts are e-torx) and all the plastic nuts and screws that hold the metal heat shield (over the exhaust) on the car. FYI, one of the nuts that holds the heat shield is above the exhaust and requires a wrench as a socket won't fit in there.

Then I took out the under panel that gives access to the clutch master cylinder. From there, peaking into the front of the heat shield you can see the rear carrier bushing waaayyy up in there. There's two bolts above and to the sides of the drive shaft.

I lowered the heat shield off the retaining bolts and pulled it towards the rear of the car a few inches before it hit the exhaust. I used a set of swivel extensions and a joint socket to barely get the e-torx socket on the two bolts on either side of the drive shaft. Luckily the bolts aren't held on very tightly, otherwise I don't think I could get it off with the amount of angle I had to use.

From there you can push the stock carrier bushing towards the rear of the car until is pops off the two forks (careful not to push too hard otherwise it's gonna fly to the rear of the heat shield cavity).

For the install I smeared some Honda urea grease (but any high temp grease should be fine) inside the new bushings and reached up in there to feed it in from the rear of the forks, I'm not sure if I got lucky but I popped both prongs in on the first try. You kind of need to do this blind with your hand shoved up there. From there you just do the reverse of the install, it's pretty easy getting everything back on.

In terms of how it feels, it's better but it definitely feels mostly the same. Maybe I was expecting a miracle that it would suddenly feel mechanical but it's just a slightly tightened up version of the stock shifter feeling. It's definitely less rubbery than before (but still kinda rubbery) and snaps into gear with a bit more notchiness.

I'm happy I did it but don't expect a complete transformation. For the price and level of effort (few hours) I think it's worth it but definitely not a must need item.

Installed the shifter other day, night and day difference to me. The height of the shifter is a little lower which I like, didn't care for the height of stock. Throw between shifts are shorter, providing quicker shifts.

Overall, couldn't be happier and absolutely worth it in my opinion.

Looks sweet. Any noticeable notchiness or increased shifting effort? Hope they have a BF sale.

Does it take away any of the rubbery feeling?

I’ve got 0 rubbery feeling and no excess play with my RE Short Shifter and rear carrier bushing set up. And that’s with a weighted shift knob.

I’m very happy with how everything feels especially with the clutch pedal stopper. $20 bucks to do what a $600 RE clutch pedal would do is a hell of a value mod.

Curious how the feel changed (outside of the throw distance) and how the install was. I might hop on this myself.

It doesn't have a notchiness at all, it moves smoothly from gear to gear. I noticed any additional force required to move through the gears vs stock. I did replace the rear carrier and the front carrier bushings with the Rogue ones prior to installing the shifter.

The install is pretty straight forward but takes a bit of time depending how small your hands are or if you want to take the center console apart vs just going through the space available once the boot is pulled up. I have the HKS exhaust, which doesn't need to be removed to get access, idk if that's the case with stock exhaust.

For me the worst parts are the rubber boot and putting the circlip on that holds the rod to the shifter. The rubber boot takes time to take off and put back on, the hole in the center console is small. If the center console was take apart to provide better access to the rubber boot, it be easier and take less time.

I wouldn't say it's hard but it's challenging due to the tight spaces.

Thanks, that's helpful I actually just ordered one myself. I also found this video that was just posted that shows the process for anyone interested.
