B48 4 cylinder Supra will come to US?

Would you be interested in a 255hp B48 Supra for $40k-$45k?

could we get a poll going? i would be interested in seeing how many buyers would opt for the B48. i dont have full production number break down for the Z4, but on Autotrader its showing 555 Z4 sDrive30i for sales vs 359 Z4 M40i.

Here's what I'm curious about: They say it's going up in power which I feel is very likely. However, will they also upgrade the head? Because I can't imagine that would be easy to do as the Euro cars would likely be forced to retain the headifold.
The BMW insider has said the EU cars will remain the same with the current B58C, but all other markets are upgrading to the 385hp B58D.

^ I said the same thing, but I deleted it after reading his post again and thought maybe he was referring to the 4cyl only.

Either way, a $40k 4cyl Supra with 255hp is a tough sell for me. At 280hp, and assuming it would dyno that to the wheels, it would be much better but it's still kinda meh. As where 335whp (385chp) for the 6cyl @ 49k is far more palatable IMO; plus, it will soon be 380whp for the same price so...

Exactly, why didn't Toyota just keep the 335hp B58 as the base model for like $45k? Do you think the 4 cylinder was pushed on the US by HQ in Japan?

Great question, but I dont have the answer. The US guys were pretty staunchly against the 4 cylinder even earlier this year, but maybe Z4 sales (as referenced above) made a strong enough business case to force their hand.

They certainly weren't successful in keeping the GR branding out of the US... (Akio actually forced that on the US execs lol)

I'm happy that GR is making an influence though. It's representative of what Toyota does in motorsports that's not NASCAR.

And A70 is there ANYTHING on the 5GS? And there is nothing on the IS either. ;-;

But hasn't the 4 cylinder Z4s always sold in great numbers due to the I6 being expensive as hell? :dunno:

I just keep going back the A80 where the GTE almost outsold the GE 2 to 1 (roughly 7k to 4k). I would just hate to see the 4 cylinder Supra collect dust at the stealership and Toyota labels it as a failure/flop and stop giving the car proper future upgrades, special editions, or S58 :D.

^ probably so, but I'm not well versed in sales, let alone BMW unit sales. I would imagine the 6cyl Supra far outsells a 4cyl due the target audience if nothing else (guys with jean shorts and generic white tennis shoes lol).

Eghh, the GR thing is honestly a convoluted mess, but you take the good with the bad and they're the ones getting most of the development money now so...

Nothing new on IS or GS atm, but I've been back in the US for a month or so working on part of my other projects.

Off topic, but with a new more powerful and expensive 86 does that mean there is room for a cheaper entry level sports car like the SFR? ;)

probably not... they shifted from the cheap FR ideology to just making sporty FF hot hatches, and I agree with that from a business perspective.

I mean there's the Honda S660 in Japan, and it's awesome, but that's just sort of an odd segment in general.

:(

Yeah from a business point there wouldn't be much of a market for an even tinier sports car. Damn Americans w/ the CUVs craze! :p

RIP Audi TT, MB SLC, Alfa Romeo 4C coupe, and any chance for a revival for the Z3, Sky/Solstice.

Ha ha yes you clearly have great insight and are well placed in TMNA or TMC, It doesn’t help that TRD basically shunned Akio long ago and before he made it to the top. Akio has never forgotten and GR creation was squarely a middle finger to TRD. For us ROW racing fans I think it’s great. Was lucky to be guest in Toyota team garage at Le Mans and love GR and glad to have the badge in back of Supra with more things to come to US but creates a very confusing situation considering TRD is so well established in US market.

This is accurate and I think been confirmed already elsewhere on here but if not....yes again

Ah another man of culture (TMC for me). And yeah, Akio definitely didn't care for the old guard especially when he was coming up through the ranks. Technocraft (TRD JP), TOM's, SARD, and some others in the old guard definitely felt the full brunt of this as a result. I think they have managed to sort of smooth this over overall, but that initial push was all he needed to create GR and eventually TGR encompassing Toyota Racing/ GR/ Lexus Racing. Their budgets aren't what they used to be though and likely never will be again until perhaps his successor...

Also, I was at LeMans; I wonder if we met lol (gonna keep my identity hidden for obvious reasons, but that's pretty comical). Either way, I agree that the driving force behind TGR as a whole is a great thing for the brand.
