Lookup how to do unknown sources with android auto, that may be potentially the issue, android auto itself requires unknown sources be enabled

omg ty so much!, never knew AA had a developer mode/setting. i am now able to see the app in the launcher settings at least lol.(will report back if it actually works when i get a chance if anyone else cares).

EDIT: cracked app works now!

What about navigation? Doesn't the iphone show upcoming turns in the HUD?
Will need someone with an iPhone to confirm, but when I was testing I didn't see any route info on the hud. But this isn't available from AA on the hub

I tested out MMB MAX Carplay Ai Box for BMW OTA Update Android 13, 8 +128GB、8 Core Multimedia Video Box. I had a similar experience as @downshift00. Very laggy and SLLOOOOW.

The touchscreen keyboard was unusable at times. The lag was so bad that it would register a key-press as holding down the key. So tapping "e" would register a "3" or an "a" would register an "@".

Turning on android auto mode made the system even slower. I could barely interact with Google Maps, like checking the next turn or just panning/zooming.

I'm going to give it another try later with an ice pack and usb car adapter to see if the problem is thermal throttling, low power, or if it's just inherently slow/bad.

Even though the specs on paper are the same as the Yolan box that @mack73 bought, this is definitely not the same. I could see some lag in his video, but this MMB box was waaaay worse.

I purchased the same unit and I can attest to what you wrote. It is actually fine when it first boots up but it heats up very quickly and slows down. It definitely needs a better heat sink or a fan.

I might give the yolan box a shot as that has a built in fan.

All the demos of this thing have it mounted in front of the hvac vents, I wonder for their demo video if they had the A/C blasting at it🤣

Game changer confirmed for me

You guys could have just got the one I said worked and saved a bunch of time. Mine works great
Game changer, eh? That thing looked like it was running on dial-up. Watching you scroll through the menu made the stock iDrive look like a supercomputer.

If the options are a MMI unit without any integration (hud, steering controls, touch screen) for $500 that I need to rip open the dash and control with the click wheel, or no Android Auto at all, or switch to an iPhone.... Yeah I'll take this more lag game changing option. You do know what game changer means right?

Have you run wireless Android Auto and Carplay before right? There is some lag in OEM versions as it takes time to send your inputs from the touchscreen to the phone and back....

lol as long as the apps/gps/music works fine, the ui lag doesn't really matter imo(unless you're using this to play movies and shit). most of us android users just want maps+music. you're not playing around the ui while you drive, set it up and forget.

if there's heating issues, i plan to just get the pro version(it comes with fans/extra fans) and run a longer cable down to the passenger footwell ac vents(outta sight).

I put MMB unit in the side pocket near the passenger well and that seems to help with heat. I also changed the "Display Mode" to "Mode 3" and the lag is also more reasonable. Unfortunately, the HUD doesn't work with Google Maps on this unit.

@mack73 can you confirm, on your Yolan unit, directions for Google Maps shows on the HUD and/or dashboard?
