Lol at the internet freaking over the looks of a TESTMULE... just a reminder of how the C8 started life.
Not nearly as outlandish or stupid, but reminds me of when they disguised the R35 as a G35 when testing it. Test mules are really neat sometimes.

Yaris headlights and taillights. Bet this is nothing more than a testing mule
It is probably another test mule but it's *much* further along to what a final car may be than the previous GR Yaris based mules. The headlights and tail lights are definitely going to change by the time a near production prototype shows up.

Yup, early stage development mules usually only involves powertrain testing like the Yaris with a 2.0 stuffed in the rear. This could be a stage two test mule were all the hard points are fixed.

this is most likely a 2nd stage MR2 test mule. below is a visualization for those that still dont understand the car development process.

Not to derail the thread, but there were early rumors that the R35 was originally supposed to be based on the G35, or at least be a heavily modified version of it. However, Nissan's chief engineer, Kazutoshi Mizuno, rejected the initial proposal to use the FM platform, instead pushing for a dedicated PM platform.

The original GTR concept looks awfully similar to the V35.

Correct; from what I know, after all the cost-cutting at Nissan under Ghosn's leadership, he wasn't interested in spending huge money on the new GTR at first despite wanting it to be a halo car and proper supercar, so the original plan was to have the R35 more or less just be a G35 with a built and turbocharged VQ35, AWD, and a nicer interior. This would have mirrored the previous GTR's being basically souped up commuter sedans.

I was a kid when the R35 first came out, but if I was an adult I know I would have been absolutely pissed if they trotted out a trumpety VQ35 GTR.

The back wasn’t too bad but the front looked awful.
What they ended up making looked way better.
