Twisted tuning, would you said Ecutek is the closest thing I will get to a Hondata Kpro for an A90 Supra? Lol

I don’t care about horsepower as much as I care about reliability and safety.
kpro is not really comparable to Ecutek. Ecutek is a flash tool that enables reprogramming of the factory ECU via OBD2. Kpro is more like a hardware upgrade with an addon programmable chip. Ecutek is mainly all software.

Like stated above, more comparable to Flashpro from Hondata.

The factory ecu has tons of safeties and etc.

I gotcha. I am still running old school Kpro on my rsx. Lol

I know you said the factory ecu has a lot of safeties but are you allowed to change the safety parameters of it and also see what safeties settings are on there? For example, lean protection . How lean of the A/F ratio will the lean protection kick in and at what psi threshold?( In case of a fuel pump or injector failure).

I am assuming you can disable the secondary o2 sensor so the Cel won’t come on when running a cat less downpipe? And I guess the factory Supra primary o2 sensor is a wideband, Correct? Can Ecutek control boost by the gear your in?

This engine and control unit are drastically different than a K series. These engines stock run stoich almost entirely at full power. These computers control the engine like an air pump rathe htan having basic tables for timing and fuel based off of a pressure level. They run full time closed loop using o2 feedback. They constantly check the flow of the fuel system and when it falls out of the parameters it will reduce power. There are many modeled sensors that dont even exist. The car assumes back pressure, it assumes pressure drop on components, and when it see's things shift to far it goes into a low power state. These ecus are fairly complex.

yea i tune Kpros as well. They are pretty cool. As for safeties, if you know where to look and how to use them. Definitely.

These ECUs are virtually like a standalone. Many Safeties and features already built into the logic, you just have to know how to use them, turn them on or off, and adjust them to where its beneficial for what you're trying to do.

For an easier explanation, the limp modes people experience are basically safeties. Most tuners just don't know how to use or adjust them. Which is why so many cars have issues. You can't just turn the boost up, lol.

Luckily for my customers, there is no learning curve since we've been tuning BMWs for years and not weeks. But these MG1 ECUs are definitely light years ahead of what you're used to with your RSX and etc.

Haha, that’s good to know. I mean it is 14 years newer. Lol

You are indeed missing that not all of us are using the base OTS maps from MHD... but a customized one and only use MHD to flash the ECU:
  • The reason why (as far as I know), I still got the most horesepower in Europe on just a downpipe and a tune on 93 octane (520HP and 775NM at the engine) via MHD. To compare... stage 2 MHD flash is 470hp at the engine

I guess everybody here knows that once ECUTEK does their proper release and features, it is better than what MHD can offer (which is kinda normal). But for now... I am not going to switch.
Got it. I hear you. Pretty impressive numbers you are getting with just the downpipe and tune my friend.

Switching from BM3 to Ecutek

Just ordered the programming kit and license

Pure turbo on the way and after research decided it was worth the investment

Will see how this one goes
