I'm curious if theres any chance it's just a few specific a91's or if this is the same for all of them.

Seems kind of odd to me that they would change this... especially with Tada encouraging companies to come out with modifications for the Supra.
He never said engine tuning mods I think. He was talking about cosmetic mods like strut bars and wings. And if you wanted to put in a 2jz that the 2.0 would be good for that. And opening up the vents. Locking the ECU would come from BMW I would think since they're the supplier.

Seems like an unusual move to change the security measures in the second model year. They mean business on no tuning, I wonder how long it will take to crack the encryption?

Stuff like this happens a lot and sometimes each year.

Good to know for those wanting a fresh one and are wanting to tune right away. But Iā€™m sure this will be unlocked in time. This practice isnā€™t unique to Toyota/BMW.

** EMERGENCY POST **

We were asked not to talk about it, but itā€™ll end up going public soon anyways.

Upon earlier this week, we received our first A91 (that i know of in the world) to be tuned. Sending his ECU in to us to be unlocked, we came across some information thats never been seen before.

Bosch has changed the security systems on MG1 ECUā€™s. This means there is currently absolutely no way to tune the car. No bench flash. Nothing.

Weā€™re currently working on getting one open to try and find a resolution around all of this. ALL A91ā€™s are this way and possibly any other 2021 that left the docks around the same time frame as they did.

Weā€™ll post more information about this when we know more and are given permission to do so.

Thanks

- Marshall at Visconti Tuning
Is this only affected on ECUs for A91 Supras or is this also applicable to A90 Supras that have been flashed by dealers (IE, recalls, updates, etc.)?

I would think any 21 made July or later this year will h ave same issue, not sure it can be flashed by dealer but possible.

This will definitely make the A90 increase in value especially if the A91 ECU cannot be cracked in the next year or so.
Future tuners/enthusiasts will select A90 for those big HP+ gains.
Finally some good news for those early adopters/ first gen (A90) buyers; sorry A91 buyers....

:)

Gotcha, I own a 2020, so Iā€™m wondering if this is mainly a hardware/ECU issue or a software/firmware issue.

Maybe be a bit cautious near future but I don't think it will be locked too long before it's benchable anyway

I got my A91 on Monday. I wonder if it made it without the lock. I know thereā€™s a hold on all the other ones at the port.

You have that backwards. Modded cars are worth less than stock ones. Buyers are always more wary with modded cars. How often do you see that mods devalue cars. Look at auctions now for 90's cars that were never molested, they're worth sometimes double, if not triple.
i hate to say this, but I completely agree. Stock cars carry a lot more value. Take the rsx that I am trying to sell, a guy messaged me and said if it was 100% stock, he would of paid me $20k with no issues.

But what does that have to do with this thread, the point was if you wanted to tune a car a 2020 is the way to go right now and I think many of the Supra owners want to modify the car. Nothing to do with resale value etc

Theres probably a lot of people on here that bought a supra thinking it will turn out to be an "investment" opportunity as if current mass produced cars dont depreciate. those mark iv resale values were probably used to convince a lot of spouses to allow this car in their garages haha
