Decided to make a build thread to maybe keep me accountable and give me some motivation since life, moving, work, etc. seem to always get in the way of working on this project.
Top picture is how the car looked at one point in its life.

In a nutshell, what it looked like when I got it. Car had been wrecked pretty bad in the left front, bent frame, pushed the shock tower up and back. Bit of a mess.
Made plans to fix the damage and slowly realized, while it was fixable, I wanted to do something a little different. So a plan was forming and a friend, after several beers, mentioned engine swapping it. The concept wasn't unheard of, and we had the parts and know how so we set out to do it.

Obviously everything is a work in progress and constantly evolving. I sometimes get idea ADD and hyperfocus on doing one small detail just to scrap it because I didnt end up liking it.
Im always open for discussion on ideas and suggestions as well.

The car will be track focused, and more of a time trial car. I had my fill of wheel to wheel over the years and have sort of lost interest in that aspect but racing myself, in a way, is always a good motivator.

I'm looking forward to sharing the ups and downs of journey along the way.

Someone had to do it eventually and I’m psyched to see someone making progress! You planning on keeping it NA? And what trans are you thinking?

One things for sure it will sound great. You can't beat the sound of a cross plane v8 engine.

The engine setup will be NA. I actually am sourcing an engine from an older daytona prototype that my friend had sitting on a shelf at his shop. We are going to go through it and refresh it and get it hooked up with a quaife sequential transmission.
It being an older DP engine means its about a 5.5L destroked LS, dailey dry sump, kinsler itbs, jesel valvetrain, custom solid roller cam, callies billet crank etc. etc.
Should be a fun screamer at 8500rpm:drive::drive::drive:

It's an interesting time to be putting a V8 in a Supra. Here in Australia our local touring car championship is running a Supra with a Toyota based V8 under the bonnet. It will be competing with the Mustang's and Camaro's. Here is a video of some demo laps last year during development at Bathurst, one of our most famous tracks.

So, totally different control bespoke racing chassis, engine, gearbox, wheels, brakes, suspension and bodywork that resembles a Supra although stretched and widened to fit the chassis. It's a marketing excersize. I guess the Toyota engine is "something" and naturally it sounds great as N/A cross plane V8's all do but a Supra it ain't.

I agree it is a marketing exercise as it is basically a silhouette series and they are hoping to sell utes not sportscars e.g. you can't buy a Supra or factory Camaro in Australia only the Mustang. It is however wonderful to see the Supra nameplate in racing.

The supercar series cars are pretty amazing, and I have always loved that series.
I actually looked at using a form of that toyota v8 engine if I could get my hands on one. In all honesty while you can get the stock engines that they are based off... the aftermarket support just isnt there. It would require way more custom, one off parts that in the heat of a track weekend if something breaks or needs to be changed. You are way more likely to be stuck with longer expensive less times for replacements.
The LS world is widely supported and a lot of parts are completely interchangeable.

Yellatclouds…that is how the Supercar series has always been, also they have been doing the v8 Supras for years already in supercar series in Indonesia.

The really silly part is even if your silhoutte body shape gives you an advantage the organisers take that away also with strict aero drag parameters. The old rules requiring an original body shell were better.

I fully agree an LS is a great choice. I just sold my V8 Commodore that had an LS in it and without a doubt great bang for buck and parts support. I did toy with the idea of putting the LS in my Supra but I didn't have the heart of thick wallet to go ahead. Good luck with the build and development mate.

Gotta love when the Toyota parts fairy shows up on Valentines Day.

Just some things I have been needing to get for awhile and finally sat down and organized a small order.
I saw where some guys were saying the (-) camber knuckles were unavailable; well these are them and the dealer didnt have an issue getting them as far as I know. So maybe orders caught up or something?
So, the more you know at the end of the day.

Have a great weekend everybody.
