What cars did you compare while considering the new Supra? Will your eye wander, with the new turbo 86, New Nissan Z, 194 mph C8 Corvette starting at $60K, or the new Mustang GT500? Then there's the Porshe Cayman and Boxster...We know that, generally, these marks have traditionally attracted distinct demographics, but with changes in technology, and maker collaborations, these lines are increasing blurred. We all have different experience, taste, and reasons that go into which vehicles are right for us. Personally, I bought my 1st Toyota, used, over 40 years ago-a manual '74 Celica. From there, into the '78 280Z. Since 2008, I've owned a '08 Honda S2000CR, track prepped NC Miata, '13 FRS, '12 ISF, RC350, '18 RCF, '18 911 base MT, and currently a LC500. Now, I have a deposit down on a 2021 Supra. How has your car journey brought you to the new Supra? With so many attractive new cars hitting the ground and being announced, how do you see this affecting future demand for the new Supra. Competition is a good thing, and with the US economic numbers booming, the market for sports cars seems likely to stay good, possibly increasing. The new rear engine Corvette has hit the ground, starting at ~$60K, for a DCT car, with supercar features (+$5K for the Z51 package). It's getting a lot of attention, especially the price point...I'd bet they sell well, and may attract some younger buyers than what we've seen typically for Vettes in the last 20 years...then there's the new Nissan Z announcement, as well as the turbo 86...makes me wonder about how strong Supra demand will be over the next few years. The 2021 changes were enough to get me on board, but part of me wants to wait for the manual.

I didn't compare it to any. I had a sports car prior for 20 years, and have been without one for 8. This one had what I wanted, didn't care what the others had, and I bought it. Glad I did!

Thankfully I wasn't nearly as tortured in my decision making process in purchasing a Supra...And I've owned many new sports cars in the past...

Having owned an '18 Vette which was straight line fast and a '17 MX-5 RF which was nimble in the twisties but gutless, I found the 2020 Supra to be sort of a goldilocks which is both fast and nimble and perfect for me...

Just remember, that waiting for the next best thing always results in not enjoying driving a hot new car now...Carpe Diem!

I simply drove the Supra, loved it, then bought it, and I still love driving it...no regrets!

That is what I did. I drove it, no turbo lag, good feel but not near as comfortable as now, since it has gotten broken in more and my seat is set up the way I like it and I like the presets to 2 different places, as I am the Only one that drives it, I have two modes of seat. lol

I would't say I'm "tortured"...more like grateful to be able to afford a toy like this, at a time when so many awesome cars are available, with more on the horizon. I can enjoy my car, while also enjoying all the interesting developments and options in the auto industry. ;)

Didnt compare. Car was announced went to the dealer same day gave them my deposit. Z was never in my mind current model is dated. Dont care for american. 86 just to slow to care. If I wanted a Porsche I wouldnt even think about a Cayman buy something higher up.

couldnā€™t said it better myself! These other comparisons wasnā€™t even remotely in the cards. People that want to buy a Supra know that they want already. Most of the Toyota dealerships said their A90 buyers already knew what exactly they wanted.

Exactly I had more info on the car and what its capabilities were. The sales guy didnt really need to "sell" it to me. Albeit the salesman was family and didn't need to. The car was bought without even seeing or driving it. That's how much I knew I wanted the car. Doubt many supra buyers just so happened to be in the market looking for a sports car around the time it released. Either you knew it was coming or you didn't.

Your lineup is missing M2 Competition.
Also, they're sports cars for sure, but some not in the same price range. GT500 starting price $74K

I did consider Cayman S and M2 at the time. Price point of Cayman S and at the time crappy 4 cylinder was out (didn't want used) and overall looks didn't sit with me. M2 is great and all, and everyone has one. I did consider M2 the most, especially because of M/T. Ended up not even test driving either. Pulled the trigger on, what's that cars name, oh yes the Zupra, lol.

Reviews for the C8 are out. Some mixed messages about performance and whatnot.
I saw few colors in person. Wasn't exactly impressed. Some people praise that it looks like a Ferrari, I think it's the car's weakness. C7 imho looks more aggressive comparing z51 to z51. Front may be nice, but as you go towards back from the side, the rear fender area looks low and weak. Even the small spoiler doesn't fix it. Yes, C8R is on another level. makes me think they designed R first, then took things out. Weight balance is 60/40. Exhaust tips looks cheap. C7's much better. Yes the displays are great, but funky A/C controls, interior splitting design... very thin spokes on wheels, doesn't look nice. I played with the configurator, not much improvement with wheels. Great first attempt.
I'll give it to GM though, even though I have never considered any GM product, a colleague just got a Terrain and I was impressed with attention to few details in the interior. Same goes for C8's seeming quality (I haven't sat in it, but pictures make it look high quality)

It looks like they are trying too hard to impress rather than having real style.

The biggest problem I see with the C8 - aside from production problems that is - is that eventually I expect to see at least one every time I drive. Sure it could be the same for the Supra eventually, but I'd be very surprised if it is. I'm totally a Nissan fan at heart and, in fact, it was the very BMW-ness that so many lament which caused me to want an MKV more. If I'd read reviews saying "it's better than the RC-F" instead of "the RC-F is the Supra you wanted"... I'd have looked elsewhere (because that's what I had and IMO it sucked ass)! :p At this point, after dozens of their vehicles... I'm just so over Toyota and their stupid design language and fleets of "grandma approved vehicles". It's great for their business, but my life is simply too short for their garbage (I said I wasn't a fan right?). The MKV is so "un-Toyota" that it's actually fantastic... I believe if it weren't simply a BMW with Toyota tuned chassis - that I would hate how it drove.

I hope the new Z is everything the old one was almost 20 years ago when it was reintroduced. Had an '06 350Z and loved it - though it definitely needed the turbo kit to get fun. I might consider getting one after a couple years of enjoying the MKV, but I'm afraid they're going to go in a bad direction with it (i.e. keep the ultra cheap interior so it's ~$40K MSRP). If they pushed that to $50K and gave it good seats and better quality materials than the last 2 "revisions" I'd be happy to side-grade to that. On the other hand, if this concept drawings tell me anything... it's that someone's been copying someone else's homework:

Is it just me or does that profile (especially the windows, a-pillars, etc.) look awfully familiar. :hmm: At least this artist's rendering is already far from accurate considering it's an EV design.

I'll believe it when I drive it... which at this rate is gonna be awhile. It will take a few revisions to get it right - at least if their other offerings are any indication. Still it's great that GM is working hard to improve their image - and the lack of reliability that damaged it during the previous two decades.

Interesting to hear others' selection process. I think one thing that drew me to the MKV is that I see some similarities between it and the '78 280Z I drove through college-both the profile of the car, and the inline 6. Reliability is a high priority to me, and the Z survived years of hard driving, until my daughter was born and it was sold at 250K miles. One thing I've accepted, is that no machine is perfect, though for me, some have come close. After all, they are nearly always some compromise between performance, aesthetics, practicality, and marketability. I find the process of researching a new to me platform, in hopes of finding the highest degree of satisfaction, as well as avoiding a mistake/buyers remorse. Testing the capabilities of a new machine is exhilarating to me, 2 wheels or 4. Sometimes, the process continues with suspension or other mods, to improve the machines' performance. You could compare it to romantic conquest, and since I've been married for 18 years, and plan to stay married, it ain't a bad trade off. ;)

Never cared for the 280 but always wanted a 240. Maybe in a "sort of" way that is what drew me to the 2020.
