To each their own. Itās totally understandable but there are still those of us who prefer a manual over an automatic in a two seater sportscar that cannot take the place of a more practical daily driver. After 30 years driving manual, the ZF 8 auto is great and shifts are super fast.. Not sure I could go back to manual after the auto in the supra.
Perhaps with the Yaris GR a nice little turbo awd, but as I'm getting older, I feel I am past the era of awd hatch and stiff clutches which would be felt in my knee for days after.
Fast shifting still isnāt the same as the human doing the shifting.
However now we do have the advantage of extremely fast and efficient automatics being an excellent option. Where I get frustrated is that just when they (automatics) have become as good as they currently are... now more often than not they are no longer options on the order sheet but rather your only given choice. Itās understandable in common everyday vehicles but itās not understandable in specialty high performance cars that arenāt something like an R35 or McLaren.
As for stiff clutches I tend to agree with you there. Iāve tried a few and I prefer stock clutch pedal effort and for higher rated capacity without much more pedal effort than stock a twin-plate clutch is the way to go. I daily with one and itās perfect and easy to use.
Anyway there will be plenty of time in not too many years when nearly all new vehicles will be hybrids and full EVs thus having zero chances of getting manual transmission options.
Thatās why right now if a sportscar, hot hatch, muscle car or supercar can get a manual option it should because in not too long it will not be a possible option any longer.
