I've been using LM 5W-30 Special Tec for about 2 years now. Interesting how LM's website ONLY lists the 0W-20 but FCP actually recommends the 5W-30.

So they are saying to use 5-30 vs the 0-20?

I have been using a great 5-30 for some time now. When I changed over to it the engine became quieter and ran smoother. I noticed this immediately. I personally would not go back to 0-20.

This is what I changed to some time back:

Schaeffer Manufacturing Co. 8008-012 Advanced European Performance Mid SAPS 5W-30 Engine Oil
Toyota says 0w20 (0W-20 LL14FE+ Rated oils.) because they most likely have to for CAFE standards. But FCP says dont use LL14FE+ as its garbage because CAFE standards suck and will harm the engines long term and that we should only LL01 Oils for the B58.

My climate can range -20 to 100F, and the 0w20 is good for -31F to 86F. A little low for our summers. So i want the 5w30/40. 30 being good up to -22 to 96F, 40 is good up to -13F to 104F. I also dont get cold enough to ever need 0w as I wont really be driving my supra under 20F, I have a daily for that.

So 5w40 is my best bet because of my climate but unfortunately LL Special Tec doesnt exist in 5w40, so 5w30 it is. Im for sure going 5w30 with LL01 protection and good HTHS (High temperature/high shear viscosity) and will work just fine for me.

I do like Schaeffer as a brand as well. Ran that plenty in my MKIV.

Turner MS had a special that was in stock, Liqui Moly 5-30 (or 40). Bought that this last time and tracking the snot out of her. My fav mechanic now has Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40. So I‘ll use that the next time.

I can’t remember which oil thread but a chemical engineering page had a member on there that I liked and recommended that (for track in a hotter climate). Works for me ✌?

Hello guys,

Friend of mine has a mercedes specific shop and he is a very big fan of Rowe, says it is underated and he recommends it to all his clients.

I searched for their ll-01 oil with this thread in mind and I found out that their ll-01 5w-40 has 4.1 hths. I was surprised that its greater than motul 300v competition, which does not have any make specification at all.

How do you feel about this?

LL-01 is where you start. If you really wanted to know, throw it up on a chemical engineering forum/thread.

Edyvw tends to have the best input imo. If you’re a lubrication engineer or tribologist, you could make the case & see what they say.

Interesting note/recommendation from FCP.

Bumping thread because this should be stickied and search engine sucks ass.

Anyways, the LL Special Tec 5w30 LL01 seems to be the winner for me based on all the information in this thread and recommendations. It hits the temperatures I need for my climate. 0F-95F, and its LL01 properties, HTHS of 3.5.

Are you not concerned about LSPI and how this oil doesn’t help with that only being API SL
