Hellloooww ladies and gentyyyymenz

Ummm, well.

Backstory...I woke up yesterday and thought i'd burn some cash for the heck of it...the end.

Basically, I'm embarking on a little project....that will involve swapping the supra 8hp51 Auto Trans with a rwd g80 m3 transmission aka the big boy 8hp76.

This is where i need some community input....but i dont wanna hear the...just build ur current trans...i say nooo F that. Thats homo.

My only question for this thread is....can the 8hp76 directly fit where the 8hp51 currently sits. From what i have been able to gather....it bolts up oem+....what do the tranny ? experts think?

Just build your current trans. It's much simpler and is the same amount of labor. Probably costs the same. And it'll hold considerably more power.

Your idea is a waste of time and money with no upside.

Yes, I read your full post and I don't care.

I also was considering a 76 swap. Thank you for answering my question.

I’ve been looking at the swap, here in the UAE it’s a bit difficult to build the trans. There are a couple of places that do it, but they charge upwards of $4k in labor alone. Meanwhile an HP75/76 can be found on the low side of $1500.

From what I gathered the bell housing and mounts are the same between the HP76Z and the 51Z. Make sure your trans isn’t the AWD one, it won’t fit.

The second issue is the immobilizer coded by the ISN. 8HP76’s depending on their firmware and hardware can or cannot be reset. So there’s a chance you might drop a grand just to find out that you can’t clear the trans if you don’t have access before buying it.

Last issue is that if you ever plan on updating iStep, flashing back to stock might yield issues. You’d either need to swap the TCUs, or risk flashing HP51 software onto the 76.

Moreover, You’ll either need to be very familiar with E-SYS, or work with someone who knows what they’re doing. It’s really easy to catastrophically mess something up on E-SYS.

Either way, good luck with the swap, it might allow for a budget trans swap option, since RWD HP76’s can be found on other donor cars as well.

XHP stage 3 on a built trans will sound just like that- Hell even on a stock trans it probably would- it is very fast, so is the 76, my good friends g82 is running xhp on drag mode in that car and it is PDK S fast

One of the neat things about going with an aftermarket TCU like the TurboLamik/HTG/Maxx is that there's programming for a trans brake and pseudo clutch. Apparently it's similar to the transbrake function on the 8HP Mopar cars.

For some reason it's not possible to do with the factory BMW TCU according to xHP when I contacted them.

Albeit I think if one were to go with an aftermarket TCU, might as well go with the 7 Speed Getrag swap. I believe Adamat and Domiworks have respective kits for mounting the transmission to the B58 motor.

Idk...that looks pretty crazy....looks as fast as a DCT....No way a 51 can match that. Only the 76 can do that.
