Aga B58 oil filter tool - Game changer or just another unnecessary gadget?

I do my own oil changes, but haven’t done one in my Supra yet. Found this tool. Anyone have/use one? Looked kinda useful. Although, I presume I could just stuff a bunch of paper towels or oil rags around the filter housing instead?

Or just let the oil filter drain before taking it out...

Probably take longer to put that totally unnecessary contraption in there.

Probably a waste of money, I usually use all of 4-6 squares of disposable Shop Towels around the housing. I've only made a mess when I've gotten in a hurry while pulling the filter out.

Loosen the oil cap to the point it's off the threads, lift up the filter, rest it back. Let it drain... then remove. Very little mess if at all.

Yea not really needed.
I let the oil drain out completely before i get to the filter and while i take it out i put it instantly in a plastic bag.

Exactly this, I stuff a blue shop towel down there and barely get a drip or two. I would actually recommend a little winter hat to keep the car warmer, money more well spent.

Looks like a pain to install each time. All you need is 2-3 blue shop towels around the housing and done.

Yeah, rag in left hand, pull filter with right, catches all drips. Faster & easier & cheaper.

It's a solution looking for a problem to solve.

or like @razorlab said. open filter housing let it sit there and let it drain why finishing up the rest of the oil change and change the filter last. zero mess zero rags no extra tools.
