It depends. If all you care about is as much horsepower per dollar, the base Z is the better buy. If you care about things like interior quality, more equipment, etc but only have low to mid 40's to spend, the 2.0 might make more sense.
If you're cross shopping any 3.0 Supra with a Z, the Supra is the better buy every time. For the $3-8k difference depending on trim, you just get more. And, higher quality of what you get. Higher quality brakes, tires, transmission, engine, interior, suspension, and on and on. You spend a little more (sticker vs sticker) but you get a lot more.
You're right, a Supra 2.0 will probably have much sportier driving dynamic too, because of the massive weight difference. People already have claimed they'd rather get a 2.0 over a 3.0 Supra because of that, let alone comparing it to the Z.

The other thing I don't like about Nissan in general, is the fact we're going to see this same Z for the next 15-20 years with maybe a minor refresh lol. It blows my mind it's using the same 370Z chassis from 2009.

The majority of buyers will use these things as dailys. For that purpose, both the 2.0 and sport Z will subvice. As @Dannyvandelft stated the 2.0 will probably feel nicer than the base Z based on the photos posted on the Z forum.

The only positives that I can see as having a base Z as a daily is: cheaper price tag, bigger engine, easier getting in and out, and being more of a comfortable GT due to the extra 200-300lbs.

Toyota does the same thing. The 5th gen 4Runner is in its 12th production year and itā€™s chassis is a 4th gen chassis with some small tweaks/reinforcements.

I owned a 370z before my Supra. I hope they put a telescopic wheel on the new version. The 370z was comfortable if you were built like an Orangutan. You need super long arms, and short legs. I'm most likely going to get one in about two years from now. My wife loves driving a manual, and she misses driving my old 370z.

I couldnā€™t imagine getting a base Z with that interior, when you can pay 2-3k more for a SS 1LEā€¦ plus mark ups, there will be someone out there paying 50k for a base Z.. I know there will.ā€¦

That video was garbage. All 'feeling' and no real #s. Drives performance model and then says it's close to a tuned 2020. Then proceeds to act like the sport model at 40k will perform the same with its open diff. Also said the mechanical diff in the z and the elsd in the supra are pretty much the same.

Sat in 90% of that interior for years...it was ok at 30k and a decade ago. For 40k to 50k and over a decade later that's a terrible interior. The Supra interior is much higher quality. Oh wait I forgot, it's not cheap and dated it's paying tribute to its heritage by reusing old parts.
