Took the car to track yesterday. This time I installed the H&R springs with 18 mm spacers all around. Re-aligned the Supra after the ride height drop as it gained more camber.
It was interesting to see how it will affect the feeling on track compared to the stock setup from last track day back in Sep.

Ambient temperature was 66 F (92 F last track day)

Max speed on the straight was 135 mph last track day compared to 138 mph, so the car is much happier in the cold and you can feel it.

Not only was the car faster on the straights, now its faster everywhere. I can carry more speed in corners and it felt more stable with some understeer in few corners, however there is still some body roll. The H&R springs helped but still it can be a bit stiffer. Also no limp mode this time!! Max oil temperature was 236 F during a full 20 minuets session so I had the chance to do more than one hot lap this time.

Considering all the above the car was 3.3 sec faster than stock! To do 2:21.6 around Losail is very impressive for a car in this class. I am confident now that it can go high 2:20 as is with a cleaner lap.

To adjust tire pressures without interference from the traction control I had to keep the electronics happy. Staring with opening the vehicle states and going into the tpms page and setting all options to others and then calibrating the new setup with the new cold pressures. I heard different Supra owners facing other traction control issue when altering the ride height with aftermarket suspension. I can say running H&R springs with the lowered ride height, I did not have this issue.

Only issue is that even with the traction control off you can feel the stability systems interfering under hard braking and turning. Hope to find a way to completely disable the traction/stability control. Back when I had my Toyota GT86 the pedal dance was used to disable all traction/stability systems. Wish there is something similar for the Supra.

After three 20 minuets sessions this was the condition of the rotors. The car had stock brake pads and factory brake oil. Can someone tell what happened? Cooked? Pad deposits?

For next track day I will be installing CSG C2/CP pads with brake fluid.

Thanks!

Currently I am only focusing on tire, suspension, and brake upgrades only.
Next up is C2/CP CSG pads then SPL front lower control arm (to be able to increase front camber) then RE71s on stock staggered wheels then I will install a rear stock wheels in the front for square RE71s. I am interested to see how every upgrade will affect the car.

Down the road I will be going with a DP and a tune but I am waiting for Ecuteck to be available in 2020.

Trying to fit the rears in the front to check the clearance for square track setup.

Looks like it will rub on compression at track with current camber settings. SPL arms will solve that.

This side has the square 19x10 with 18mm spacer in rear and 13mm in the front.

And the other side has the 19x9 and 19x10 with 18mm spacers.

Good news is that it does not rub from lock to lock.

Took the car to the dealer and got the rotors replaced under warranty, then installed CSG pads. I also replaced the brake fluid with RPF660 and installed smaller spacer in the front (13mm)

Manged to shave 0.8 sec with the new setup. Braking is improved with no fade, good modulation, easy on the rotor.

Moved to RE71 (stock sizing) and had more aggressive alignment. Finally the car handles as I want and its a joy to drive on the limit now.

Small touches for track duty

The car has a lot of potential and to see it go this fast with few simple mods (springs, pads, and tires) proves that. Before owning the car I imagined a sub 20 lab for the Supra would be hard and will take a long journey. Now I think sub 15 is possible on the long term since the ideal lap was 2:18.6 without traffic the same day. To put that in perspective this is the leaderboard for Losail lap times currently

Things I hate with the Supra on track so far;
  • Electronics interference with traction (low tire pressure)
  • Not being able to fully disable stability control
  • Shift lever jumping from manual to auto under hard cornering
  • Small fuel tank
For the shift lever, my current solution is this

On the things you hate the number 2 & 3 have you researched how to full disable the stability control and why the shifter moves from manual to auto?

Unfortunately there is nothing out there and its a new platform so all I can do is adapt for now and to be honest I don't notice stability controls kicking in as hard now. Maybe because I got used to it or from the different setup (more grip)

For the shift jumping into auto under hard cornering (left handers) I think its because the spring or shifter mechanism holding the shifter in manual is a bit soft. As far as I know I am the only one with this issue since no one is complaining about it.

Clearly one of the best threads on this forum.

Can't wait to see you do faster laps around Losail! :D

lol How did you get dealer to replace the Rotors after a track day? Impressive.

I have no idea I thought they would refuse since its a consumable and was used on track. My frined insisted to go check with them before resurfacing the rotors since he was in the same situation with his Supra.

So I took the car. Explained what happened and next day they called saying they filled a warranty claim and received the approval from Japan. :dunno:

Nice I had to have mine resurfaced didnt think to take in for a warranty claim. I also cracked the oem pads in half.
