Brakes making clicking/clunking noises

You might be fine swapping them to your aftermarket ones. In my efforts to get rid of that clunk I actually swapped back to NEW OEM brake pads in the front. Welp that clunk was still there, though I swear it’s not as loud or annoying as before. Maybe I’ve gotten used to it, IDK. I now think that it might be from the floating design of my brake rotors but have no clue really.

Here’s even more definitive proof of the adhesive on the OEM brake pads.

Service manual says the following about the adhesive as well:

Hopefully, you have enough grippy adhesive that's not covered in that sweet sweet OEM brake dust.

Also, thanks JRedMKV for the picture. I'm going to buy some 3M VHB to stick on my Z26's to see if it will fix the issue. I'll report back.

I know this is petty but I've had a long week and it's Friday so IDGAF. Earlier in this thread these two guys below could not change their mind and admit they where wrong even though I literally showed them video proof.

Now since more people are providing evidence and just want to surface their quotes again. 100% WRONG. Neener Neener! ;)


OEM pad is never glued. due to heat, it does get stuck together mildly but never glued to pad and caliper.

Well I hate to burst your bubble but oem pads are not glued to piston.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that too actually if I get around to swapping them.

Project Mu 999 was “tighter” than the Hawk DTC60 I usually run.
Looking back at this thread, I really need to bite the bullet $$$ and try the CSG ones like Rock (Bob) said. Just for performance. Bryan (Razor) is correct (as usual lol) with the OEM glue & it won’t make a difference other than noise if using them for in town driving.

correction on an earlier post, looks like adhesive was used from factory to hold pads in place during assembly. however, as you know, glue would not be able to hold force of the braking. for example, when I changed my brake pads, it just came out without any resistance. One of the reason I didn't think there was any glue. I also had clunking noise after changing pad which I did not transfer shim from original pad. after installing shim, clunking noise was gone.
