Just an update on my oil consumption. I'm currently at 3,700kms (2,700miles) since my oil change, and I'm still at max. I've been way harder on the car since my oil change. It's still too early to tell if my consumption has slowed down. Total milage on the car is 12,000kms (7,000miles ish)
And you're on the recommended 0w-20 oil, right? Your observations look promising, especially noting you’ve crossed the 10,000km mark and oil consumption should have stabilized.

I'm still using 0w20.

Since they have started my oil consumption test I haven't consumed any oil in about 550 miles..

BUT....
Toyota has ask me not to drive the car in sport mode for the next 1200 miles...
Kinda ridiculous that I can't drive the car the way it was suppose to be driven without burning through quarts of oil...

I'll do my time n see what Toyota has to say...

Steve
I would ask them to pay me for every mile spent not in sport mode. ?

Well looks like it might be time I finally get to join the club. Just about 1300 miles on 5w30 and here we are. Recap - 2500 miles on factory oil, zero consumption. I do have to say, if it eats a quart every 2000 miles, I am perfectly fine with that.

50 miles later, after the same drive home, parked in the same exact spot, almost at the identical time, we have oil..... 11° ambient temp difference though. Guess I don't get to join the club yet.

Started receiving low oil notification at about 3100 miles after doing an oil change at Toyota then again at 3900 miles after topping off. Right after that I made the switch to redline 5w30. Hit 5k miles today and still at max level praying for the best!

You must be right on the edge of showing the next level down below the max line. Depending how soon you’re next oil change is it just might hit the low oil warning.

You've done 5000miles on 5w30 without a low oil warning?

I agree. But has it been like this since my oil change? You know cause we have to guess how much oil it takes to fill. Could have filled it to that border line from the beginning. If it drops below the halfway mark, we will know its eating some oil. Next oil change is 1200 miles and 2-4 auto-x days.

You arent at all out of spec. Your engine is fully breaking in. You have used a liter or quart in 5k miles?? Thats not useage in terms of anything excessive. The 5-30 makes no major difference. Sounds like a good motor and normal oil use.

I would take it back to the dealer and tell them you want the oil check functionality fixed under warranty. If they won't fix it, try a different dealership I guess, but that just seems like bullshit that they are ignoring what is obviously defective software or hardware with the car. It isn't like they can say "our tech tested it and it worked fine" if it always stops at 20%.
Yeah going into the dealership this Thursday for the recall reprogramming for the brake booster and gonna tell them and show them checking if oil still stops at 20 percent. Was just waiting for the recall fix to available but it came quick so we gonna see what they say. We already know it some sensor for checking the oil level hopefully they can figure it out or maybe the reprogramming of the ecu fixes it? ?

Update: Oil went back to halfway after adding a quart about thousand miles ago. Total miles on vehicle is 5400.

Doesn’t seem to have slowed down unfortunately. Still using OEM spec 0w-20.

I know there is a possible defect in these 2engines but I am not 100 percent sure it might be a combo of parts causing the low oil issue.

I am working with the dealer on mine I have two issues unable to check engine oil (it’s stops at 20 percent) and mine is burning about 1 quart every 1000-1200 miles!

The two parts below might fix the two issues!

Here is what I think fixes the rapid oil consumption is the
VALVE ASSEMBLY, OIL PRESSURE CONTROL
Part Number: 23950WAA01

And the unable to check engine oil level is the

SENSOR, ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Part Number: 89491WAA01
