So far I've added

1qt at 3600mi
1/2qt at 4200mi
Did you get a second “low oil alert”, and decide to add half a quart to observe the measurement results? One quart at 3600 miles doesn’t sound too bad, imho. Second alert at 4200mi does seem odd.

-Sport mode burns oil quicker (could be some truth to this but take with a grain of salt)
this statement makes sense, and generally is understood to be the case with sustained high RPMs .

The question is, what rate of oil consumption becomes excessive for this BMW engine? Because there are varying standards even in this forum.

More importantly, unless the consumption is outrageously excessive (one quart per 500-1000miles?), I’d also want to observe how it develops over the 10000km break in.

I didn't get an alert the second time, I think it only triggers at 1qt under max. I've just been in the habit of checking it every few days now and saw it was 1/2qt low.

Be careful topping up without the alert.

I have seen the oil measurement fluctuate between markers. Mine alternated between 3/4 and 1/2 before it later stabilized at 1/2. It’s not very precise. So if you add oil before the computer calls for it, you run risk of overfill.

Cars have been using oil forever, it's nothing new. The Toyota Prius is considered "normal" when it burns up to 1 qt every 600 miles, this is from Toyota themselves. Basically just have to monitor the oil level and add as needed.

the problem with these cars, they need a damn dipstick

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on it for sure

Did you re-check after 30 min+ driving the next day? Thats what Ive normally done. Confirm it especially if its just a bit low.

I've basically gotten in the habit of checking it after driving, when I pull into my parking space at home.

Well looks like it might be time I finally get to join the club. Just about 1300 miles on 5w30 and here we are. Recap - 2500 miles on factory oil, zero consumption. I do have to say, if it eats a quart every 2000 miles, I am perfectly fine with that.

I got my car 2 months ago. 06/21 and 1200 miles so far. No oil consumption problems so far. But want 0w30 since I plan to track.

I called my local Toyota dealer and asked if I have the ability to run 0w30.. long story short, they didn’t even know that the Supra has a BMW engine in it!

So I called Toyota direct..

They told me that we can run 0w30 oil and keep the warranty. She said that there is more information on their side without it being printed on the owners manual. Information including the ability to run either.

Any heaving driving or track events during the 1300 miles?

Nope, which is why I think its eating oil. The Supra is mad at me for taking it easy. My next race should be in 2 weeks so we will see what happens between now and then.

I switched to 0w30, to keep it under warranty, before switching to 5w30. I'll let you guys know how it goes (I drive a lot)

You guys never owned BMWs before? My 3 series use to always burn oil and coolant. No fixes but it never burned enough to be a problem between oil changes.

The coolant issue was more annoying. Reason why I always get extended warranty on any BMW. They kept on replacing my water pump even tho they knew it wouldn't fix the issue.

Just an update on my oil consumption. I'm currently at 3,700kms (2,300miles) since my oil change, and I'm still at max. I've been way harder on the car since my oil change. It's still too early to tell if my consumption has slowed down. Total milage on the car is 12,000kms (7,500miles)
