Yeah, it's interesting to witness just how quickly the issue subsided.
It was the same on the Focus RS forum. Perceived clutch problems, CDV and upgrade solutions then nothing. People just learned how to use a clutch I guess. It's not as simple as people think. New Ducati owners back in the day when they had dry clutches often struggled to understand the clutch wasn't designed for stop light launches. If you wanted to blow people away at the lights then buy a Suzuki GSXR or something. Same with Ferraris going back 50 years or so, the clutch wasn't designed for hard launching from a standstill, they didn't like that at all. Just part of getting "in tune" with the machine you're driving or riding.

I never really though this was going to be a universal mt problem, the way my car felt acted, I was pretty positive it was one off issue directly with my car, annoying as it may be, shit happens and it does not bother me much anymore, I definitely plan to do the CDV delete asap

I'm up to 6200 miles now and no issues (knocking on all the wood). I didn't have a manual car for over 8 years and just popped into this one and had to slowly relearn how to drive smoothly and all that. I've only smelled burning clutch once and that was just getting a bit rev happy moving off from a hill (not rocking it or anything like that).

Any thoughts if the rev matching could increase the longevity of the clutch at all (assuming all other variables remain equal)? It seems like downshifts are of course smoother with it on but it's easier to upshift smoothly without rev matching on. I could be imaging that but wonder if there's more rev hang or something when iMT is on? Probably not but just wondering.

No it essentially just adds a little bit of slip every time you engage the clutch by restricting how fast pressure can build in the clutch line/slave cylinder. If you're just driving normally this probably won't make that much of a difference in clutch life.

Edit: I notice how we haven't heard of anyone else having clutch slipping problems recently. I wonder if this was just an early build issue.
I just stopped caring once the aftermarket option was available. Would love to see more aftermarket brand options but looks like most MT owners want to put more miles on the OEM unit.

Logically thinking, I feel like rev-match would help preserve the clutch life in general.
However, smooth normal shifts, with a little extra clutch slip is probably more detrimental just because how often you end up shifting.

Also, I had no clue that iMT messed with upshifts. I'll need to test this out !

On a side note, I test drove a friends MT cayman, and man was I left speechless by its shifter feel.

I always thought these journalists were full of fake praise and crap, but that cayman shifter feels like well-oiled, bolt action rifle; its smooth, mechanical, precise and short. There was no wobble at all. Every gears slots in so gdamned precisely.

Wonder if someone will make better shifter linkage for our supras, along with a short-throw kit.

I don't think it messes with the upshifts from how the assist for manuals tend to work in general but I wouldn't really know cuz I turned that off when I got the car. Wish I could get rid of the hill assist too but haven't found that setting yet ?.

A heavier shifter helps with the feel but I agree that short shifter would make these improve significantly. Even my previous BRZ had nicer throws from the factory.

Please update if you ever figure out how to turn off the hill assist ?

I've been chasing it for a while now but can't find anything in Bimmercode or anywhere, I must've read the manual front to back at least 3 times trying to find something in there.

I'm also hoping someone eventually does a short shift kit for this car, OEM shifter is decent, I'll take it over any standard BMW shifter, but a shorter/notchier shift would definitely be an improvement

+1 for the short shifter.

I was able to exchange a couple emails with the owner of AutoSolution. He makes kits for BMWs only and does it as a hobby.

Not sure if I understood correctly, but he was not 100% in making one for the Supra because the demand was not there or he doesn’t have the time.

Well I was planning on getting Bimmercode for it as my next step but guess that's not gonna be much help :banghead:. I might have to look into going with a hydro e-brake to replace the electronic one all together.

Whats the issue with Hill start assist. I love it on my other manual cars and believe me I'm an expert at hill starts after 45 years driving manuals.

I don't not like it to the point where it's unlivable, I'm just used to how it feels to not have hill assist, and weirdly enough having it throws me off at times.

If it can't be turned off, I'll live with it and get used to it, but if there's a way to turn it off, I'd prefer that

I second this. It just feels.. unnatural.

Not sure if it's just my car or something that others also experience but when the hill assist engages the the e-brake on mine, it doesn't disengage smoothly. When trying to move the car on an incline it jerks cuz I have to press the gas way more than I need to before it releases. Even on small hills I can't inch the car forward without feeling like I have an anchor stuck to it.

The FocusRS system worked perfectly but then again I was never in a situation where I was trying to inch forward repeatedly because I didn't use the car for commuting.
