I finally acquired a donor DME to get cloned, so now i am ready to send mine to FEMTO to get unlocked. the question is that i have gotten different answers from companies regarding the cloning process.
does the MHD+ programming transfer to the cloned DME?
one says its way more expensive than what they have on their web site and they need to change it. their process also requires to remote in and program the DME after the clone .
one says that once cloned it is just plug and play and you can switch DME's back and fourth easy if needed.
one says bench unlock is still required where another doesn't.
can someone clear this all up for me please.

MHD is activated licensed by vin.

MHD is no transferable from custom to customer.

Femto doesn't clone anymore.

If you bought a PostJune Femto Unlocked ECU, then you've waste money.

We clone, and so does BIMMERECU, no one else.

Pick who you want to work with and email them.

There is no reason to clone if you want to use MHD+.

Cloning is for who want to run EcuTek.

what about emissions? i bought a Pre 06/2020 DME. if i clone to that DME and it gets an update can't i just bench unlock it vs. the post 06 DME that if it gets updated it has to go back to FEMTO?

How does this have anything to do with emissions?

If any ecu gets updated, it would need to be unlocked again.

Dont bring your car in to Toyota and you have nothing to worry about

Not necessarily, a cloned DME is a lot more versatile in general. A bench unlock is a lot cheaper if you have to flash back to stock for whatever reason, like smog.

Also allows you to switch your tuning platform without resending your post June DME back to Femto.

Hi John

Is it possible to clone the ECU from a 2024 MT?

Thanks
Hasan

Let's get some facts straight here.

Every ECU can be flashed back to stock.

Flashing back to a stock calibration does not effect the unlock.

No one is going to spend the expense of cloning unless they plan on going to EcuTek and have big power goals.

False I cloned because I did not want my stock ECU modified. And so I can go to any tuning platform at any time.

for emissions they can detect if the ecu has been modified from its original tune. they check the CVN number. you can pass the sniffer and a visual inspection and still get a fail.

say the car has to go to a dealer or gets an update on accident a bench unlock is much more appealing than another FEMTO process. so thats why a cloned ecu would be nice.

Since when did Femto stop offering cloning? Genuine question.

For the smart people who think keeping their OE ecu stock for some special occasion, let me burst your bubble. When you reinstall that ECU, you get a code for the mileage not matching. Probably the only thing worse than losing your factory warranty is having a bad carfax.

To pass smog you'll need to be stock, and flashed stock.

CVN is for the calibration side of the ecu, not the bootloader.

Flashing to stock solves 1 one problem

The other problem is solved by not going to the dealer.

I got my ECU cloned by Femto three weeks ago. When I Dm'ed them, they said they don't do it anymore but when they visited Dubai they did it for me. Approximately 600 USD.

Flashing back to stock will always fully remove the unlock and the DME must be unlocked again for flashing MHD.
this is direct from the MHD site.
this is the reason i created this post, there is so much conflicting info out there
