Don't forget the same date rules apply! You still need < 06.2020! That means even though the M240i for example, is a B58TU/O1, it won't ever work because of the dates.

ModelYearsEngine
M240i2022-B58D / B58TU / B58O1
M340i (G20)2019-B58D / B58TU / B58O1
M440i (G22)2021-B58D / B58TU / B58O1
540i2020-B58C / B58M1
740i2020-B58C / B58M1
840i2018-B58C / B58M1
X3 M40i2020-B58D / B58TU / B58O1
X4 M40i2020-B58D / B58TU / B58O1
X5 40i2019-B58C / B58M1
X6 40i2019-B58C / B58M1
X7 40i2019-B58C / B58M1
Z4 M40i2019-B58D / B58TU / B58O1

And as always, confirm the VIN of the donor car with Femto/PPE/Visconti/etc. Before pulling the trigger.

Edit: Removed the the M240i because complaints.

Where do you even find these ecus? Are we straight up pulling them from auction yards?

Yes. Or someone else is. car-part.com
Something else that could be added to your table.... BMW part numbers for each specific ECU.

Maybe don't include the M240i in the compatible table then if it's not.

Its a compatible ECU just not a tunable ECU :)
Id like to ask a clarifying question:

Does this mean if one were to acquire a “compatible” “not tunable” ecu there is no value to it? Since you can’t dump your ECU contents to it, and if you sent to FEMTO it would only be unlocked, not cloned, it would be of no use to not the original owner.
Is that thinking correct?

Correct. If you bought a non tunable ecu it would be a paperweight.
