My '23 3.0 Premium is going to be delivered to the dealer any day now. The dealer I am purchasing from is out of state so I'm making a road trip out of it which will include several nights at our favorite resort at Tail of the Dragon for some fun before heading home to FL.

I want to do what I can to best protect the paint on the trip before I get it home and have it PPFed. Has anyone had any experience with using TrakkTape or Road Trip Tape? What was your experience? Any other recomendations?

I used XPEL Tracwrap. Covered the front bumper and portion of the hood, including the headlight as straight as I could with no overlap.
https://www.xpel.com/products/paint-protection-film/tracwrap

Left it on the car for 2 week or so. Upon removing there were some residue left. Was able to remove with power wash and some elbow grease.

Mind you, I stupidly stretched the film and those locations left residue. My experience, don't stretch it. Just lay it..

Well, ok. Some city driving and 10+hr interstate driving, no issues as in damage, bugs, etc. to speak of.

I will comment as a supporter for the factory paint and protection. I did one good coat of ceramic after I bought the car and just recently (7000K) took it on a road trip from OH>Nashville>ATL>SC>NC and back including mountain and park roads with heavy rains. I tried to find a touch-less wash at a few stops. It looked rough when I got back but damn if it didn't look new after a good wash. I was very impressed with the paint especially with factory protection. So I wouldn't sweat it to much regardless of which route you go.

Factory paint is crap. I guess you're lucky that you got factory ppf, but not everyone did/does.
There's always constructions throughout summer = stones/chips. I'd not bet on not having any protection if down the road small chips will bug you.

If you're inclined to I'd put some protection on the bottom portion of fenders..

I've seen people use multiple layers of masking tape on the high-impact areas. This would probably be the most cost effective way to do it but I'm not sure how effective it would be in the rain.

If everything stays on track, I'll be arriving the 10th, leaving the 14th. Staying at Tapoco.

I did Full PPF on my car and did track days and long road trips no issues with rock chips or track tire debris markings all over my hood and windshield. I also did wind shield PPF no chips either. Make sure you find a good installer reputable that's does not show off and has done other Supras and ask other fellow supra owners and check out their cars.

Remember PPF is a wear item it's just protects the paint and at some point will need to be replaced.

Right, I'm planning on having actual PPF installed (already have it lined up with my shop), I'm looking for opinions on these temporary options to avoid chips while on the road after picking up the car, 800 miles away.

I would put that Tundra to work ?

Drive up in the TUNDRA, rent a Uhaul car trailer near the dealership, and drive to your destinations.

If you can, try not to drive it in the rain. Your PPF shop will appreciate it ?

I definitely considered that, but it's so much cheaper (in gas alone) for me to just rent a car a drive it up there and drive back. My wife also requested no towing trip this time. Lol Plus, with us turning this into a vacation trip breaking in the car, not having to deal with the logistics of stopping with a trailer since we're doing an overnight in Atlanta and Bristol before we get to the dragon.

All future trips up to the dragon/track will be on a trailer since my friends do the same, and I've already got my own trailer hehe

I’ll be driving my car at least 600 miles to get it home. I plan on using Xpel Trakwrap on the full bumper, hood, a pillars, fenders, and headlights. Total rip-off, but worth it to protect the car ahead of spending another $2,000+ on PPF.

Check out https://roadtriptape.com/ I think that's what I'm hoping to end up going with vs the tracwrap.
