Ya this happens to me a few times a week it’ll end up Being a recall I think or service bulletin because it is supper annoying: at first just the knob within the boot would get loose but now the whole boot comes off exposing the metal shifter lol.
Not liking the sound of that. Have you informed Toyota?

Literally at the dealer as I type this. It will become a recall cause it’s pretty dangerous it happened in the middle of an intersection that I was turning left on and popped itself back into N

This thread is kind of confusing. It sounds like multiple issues being reported. Is the shift knob detaching from the shift lever during normal driving?

I was curious and lifted up the shift boot and the knob and lever are all one solid piece from what I can see.

the shift knob is attached to a rod which is inserted into a shaft that leads into the gearbox they are in fact two separate pieces and the separation point meets I would say about 3 inches below the base of the knob…idk why but that sounded super sexual and I think I’mdone with the internet today

LOL sorry to make you go into vivid detail about that. Do you have a picture of where the failure is and the knob is separating or do you just pop it back in?

so my ocd caffeine induced anxiety ridden ass didn’t take a photo or video I just shoved it back down and started making phone callsto Toyota. The boot never came off in my case so I just blindly guided it (the rod) back into place and shoved it with as much force as my amateur body building ass could lmfaoooo seems like it’s stiff for now until next time and when that happens I’ll snap a video

You all just wait and see, Toyota's official brilliant fix for the issue will be to call Henkel and ask for an appropriate adhesive solution, specifying the contact materials involved and strength requirements. Next, a team of engineers will spend a month creating extremely-specific technical instructions, and several illustrated photos and diagrams regarding the repair procedure. Then, and only then, will owners be notified of a CSP, TSB, or full-blown Recall to fix the issue. Lastly, after scheduling an appointment with the Supra Certified Technician at your local dealer, you will bring the vehicle in for the remedy, which they will promptly perform and return the vehicle to you.

TL,DR: Toyota's gonna have a grease monkey epoxy your knob to the shaft.
