Mkv fe dealer price $72,289 before taxes (has driver assist, gr strut tie, gr windshield sunshade, gr cover, paint protection film, and of course $70 USB cable for phone). Got it for $67,400 before taxes with no bargain at all. I am excited. What are first few things that are must to be done? Winters in Ohio are extreme and the car is garage parked.

First thing would be to search for the most commented/viewed threads on this forum, which will likely give you a good understanding of common problems, modifications, etc.

I would dump the 0W-20 factory fill and switch to an LL01 or LL04 5W-40. Also would get an alignment done.

Make sure to buy a WiFi OBD2 adapter rather than a Bluetooth. Bluetooth is slow.

If you have a ZF8 transmission buy XHP

If you aren't concerned about the warranty, get a FEMTO or Autotuner unlock as the first mod. Take your pick between bootmod3 or MHD+ and start logging the car.
For more research, this thread should get you started.

Awesome! Welcome to the club! There isn't anything you have to do right off the bat other than a wind buffeting fix. Basically any product out there will solve the issue. Other than that, have fun with it!

Ask @concept about oil
Can we put some subcategories into this? I think it would really halp.

- what diff oil?
- what trans fluid?
- what break fluid?

Then brake it down even farthest.

- what are the best tyres?
- what engine coolant?
- what heat exchanger fluid?
- what break pads should I run?
- can I run a meowless downpipe without a toon?
- what’s the best turbo upgrade?
- take a look at my jb4 log and tell me what these lightning bolts mean and why my car runs bad.
- I don’t care that I asked you a question and told you your response is wrong. This isn’t the internet.

Mods need to make a sticky.

Alignment. Agreed.
The car's stock alignment will send the rear end sideways. Dangerous given this "is your first sports car." I kicked out the rear end of the Supra in a light rain... on the test drive... at 35mph. Now this was punching the throttle, so the rear will wiggle SOME. But sideways, yeah no. I suggest maxxing out the rear toe. Mine is -13 (yes, this scrubs some speed, but pushing power roughly toward the driver/engine, versus sideways). Front I did .05, which still retains the sharp steering, but give a little more high speed stability.

Find a local BMW independent shop.
The car IS a BMW Z4. A BMW tech will hands down know way more about your car than the Toyota tech. Yes, use the factory warranty from Toyota, but anything outside of that or after... BMW indy shop. Plus, labor costs from an independent is much, much less expensive.

Do a track school
Forget any power or suspension mods. What's the point of more power or better handling if you don't know how to drive? What will eventually happen is you will pour 10s of thousands of dollars into the car, but still essentially just floor it at a stoplight. And every Lotus, Porsche, McLaren, etc. you may eventually get will just be about pushing the gas pedal down. But picking up driving skills. Yeah baby!

One of the biggest joys I ever got owning cars like a Miata or BRZ - was leaving on/off ramp tailgaters because they didn't know how to turn (think M5 versus BRZ).

Track school teaches you braking into a turn, setting up the car for the turn, when to give it throttle, exit, apex, etc. One day at a track school (not racing), is like years of real driver's training. And it's a skillset that follows you to any car.

And a big plus, is getting a sticker with Laguna Seca, Infineon, Willows, or Thunderhill to put on your window. Much better than any JDM decal. ;)
