I don’t think anyone here cares about the 86, let alone the BRZ. Personally, I look at those two as a Subaru, because the flat four engine, transmission, and ecu are Subaru. Sound familiar?FFS.... about the 86 and BRZ being the same car, please note that the BRZ also would NOT exist if not for the 86. The way some ppl carry on is as if Subaru came to Toyota and said "here's the rwd car, wanna buy it from us and put a Toyota badge on it?"![]()
Transmission is Toyota/Aisin, Heads are pretty much all Toyota. ECU is def Subaru though. And the 86/BRZ are so far removed from anything Subaru has made or even conceived in their labs, that to this day I am still surprised that they agreed to Toyotas demands.I don’t think anyone here cares about the 86, let alone the BRZ. Heads are pretty much all Toyota, so that makes the car a Toyota!?!?! Ah got it...Transmission is Toyota/Aisin, Heads are pretty much all Toyota. ECU is def Subaru though. 86/BRZ is not going to help your argument here unfortunately, that car is definitely not a Subaru.
Toyota did dabble in flat 4 cylinders so I would imagine they played with the engine a bit when thinking of the architecture. Just like Toyota would assumingly play with the b58 by using their own experience.Heads are pretty much all Toyota, so that makes the car a Toyota!?!?! Ah got it......what was I thinking. Forget the rest of engine and it’s unique flat four layout....that’s distinctly Toyota, yep. Got it.
You see, you're thinking about the manufacturing. You're not thinking about the car. Subaru has never, and will never make a car like the 86 by themselves. They lacked the engineering know-how and dynamic understanding to do so. Toyota made the car with them and contracted them to manufacture it.Heads are pretty much all Toyota, so that makes the car a Toyota!?!?! Ah got it......what was I thinking. Everyone ever fails to comprehend this. You see, you're thinking about the manufacturing. You're not thinking about the car. Subaru has never, and will never make a car like the 86 by themselves. Subaru is stamped everywhere on that car and yet it shares no driving characteristic similar to a single other Subaru ever made, yet somehow drives significantly like a litany of Toyota cars. That's the difference.
