I'm not going to read through all this as I'm still super busy over here, but I did want to say this:

I spoke to a couple Z4 engineers at the reveal yesterday and they were singing praise about Toyota. "This partnership has been incredibly beneficial as both BMW and Toyota are experts in their fields." He went on and talked about how their different outlooks and approaches came together to build a car that neither company could/would have built independently.

Of course, no BMW employee would talk bad about Toyota at this stage, but these guys were engineers and designers, not PR guys, and they seemed very earnest.

Anyways, that's all. Stop arguing about useless junk please, I'm much too busy lol.
They sound like a group of true car enthusiast. Glad that it worked out just fine in the end, despite the conflicts they had in the beginning.

Damn you're eagle-eyed. I appreciate the info.
It's my job to find the differences between the mechanical parts.:nixon:
For those who doubt about the new BMW high cylinder
We can also see the attachment of the exhaust manifold and the manifold on the new z4.

which is not posible on the b58 340i with an identical angle.

Here's the one shot I got with the shadows pulled up. Thankfully I shot in raw so there was decent shadow information, so you can clearly see the exhaust manifold and the valve cover.

I honestly do not understand people who posts negative comments on this post.
Obviously, this car is panning out to be much different than what you expected and I get that you are disappointed.
But why keep posting here?
You guys are not adding any more value to this post and people who are actually interested in this post obviously do not care about your opinion here.
I think you guys should just create a new hate post or something and post there instead of here.

Agreed but.. think about it this way.

You see something you may like.. and then you hear it maybe something you expect it to be and then it’s turning out to be something that you don’t want it to be..

Some people walk away.. and some voice their opinion. Nothing wrong in that.

We already moved on from this. The fire is out and you are trying to reignite it. Maybe unintentionally, but you are asking for more of the same kind of comments that you complained about. Just let go, move on everyone.

Definitely seems like a new head casting compared to B58. Does anyone know if such big changes are normal in a "TU"?

edit: for clarification - the entire head is a different casting, going by the hot side manifold interface.

Are BMW's Technical updates normally smaller changes, or would an entire new head denote an entire new engine nomenclature? (I have revision control best practice swimming in my head as I ask these questions)

Now i am totaly confused, does all of this mean there is no new iron block? I thought that was confirmed by Tada san.

Your right it obviously looks like it by the split casting line that it must be cast iron. Stainless steel would be the other ideal choice, however, I see no "dime stacks" on that flange. Curious if they surprise everyone with a sequential setup like the MKIV.....probably won't, but it would be cool to see especially with new turbo technology nowadays. Just sayin'....;)

Here's a high-res version of the B58 image. You can clearly see the front profile (and exhaust side "overhang") is different to the engine in the Z4/Supra.

Similarly, a quick google suggests it is not like any head from the current BMW range, and all manifolds are a combination of pressed and cast material, whereas this one seems entirely cast.

Interesting.

I hope they don't just call it the B58 "TU" and it has enough differentiating factors to get a new name.
