I'm stuck between an a90 and m340. I know they're both b58 and all that but this will be my only car. I will be modifying whatever I buy but I also want a car that I can take 6 hours to see my family a few times a year, take my girl on dates, etc but also a car that I can modify, have fun with, etc. What are your thoughts?

It depends on what oil you're going to use. Other than that....Drive both, check finances, decide from there.

Hope that helps.

Only car? M340i XDrive.

You can tune the ecu and run ethanol blend and have a fast car while still looking classy.

The A90 is cramped and not that practical.

All comes down to which you believe you'd enjoy more;

A true sports car with huge track and street potential, that looks unique to anything else on the road and draws attention quite frequently, whilst being not necessarily the most comfortable car to drive in.... or avery fun sedan with big straightline potential (especially with x-drive), that's very comfortable, but blends in with ordinary traffic and will never draw attention.

Based on your OP post, I would say that unless your girl really likes sports cars / thinks the Supra is cool, the m340 would be the better choice. More comfortable for long drives (I find the Supra pretty comfy though, personally) and most women would prefer a comfy sporty sedan with a BMW badge over a low and small sports car with a Toyota badge.

I appreciate all the insight. I am in NC so sometimes snow is a thing sometimes not but luckily I don't have a commute to worry about. other than that, my real thing was traction once modding because I heard (no knowledge if this is true) that anything over say 500whp is pointless on the supra or rwd m340 due to spinning even at some highway speeds.

Hard to answer this question as it's entirely dependent on your lifestyle. Personally I would not want a Supra as an only car because I constantly take things bigger than the hatch can hold. A sport sedan or hot hatch is a decent compromise if you need the utility.

On the other hand I have no issues driving the Supra 7+ hours or taking the wife on a date or a weekend trip with a couple small carry on bags.

I feel like I was in this situation years ago. My compromise was to buy the practical car but also get a sportbike which takes care of the need for speed.

The Supra is a very unique car, punching well above its weight visually. An M more than one number will always look pedestrian by comparison and has comparatively very little street presence.. but as others have pointed out, it is way more practical, just as quick or quicker out the gate and the most logical, if slightly more boring, choice.

The 340i is the daily driver choice if you only have one car. There’s no way I could live with the Supra as my only car. it’s just too small and compact for everyday life with golf clubs / wife / business meetings.

I use the Supra for Costco runs. Also big enough to carry my offshore fishing gear and fish cooler. Prior car was a 4 door sedan and 15 years had passengers in the rear maybe 4 times. Your biggest advantage is no 3rd wheel on any trips and no large passengers, both major advantage in the dating world. Only reason I would go different route in your case is snow So FWD or AWD like a TLX for me. Otherwise I’ll take the unique look/ experience of the supra over the M340.
