Got a little schooling on lithium batteries from the fire department last month. They said the lithium batteries when they catch fire burn a lot hotter and it’s really hard to put them out. They said it’s not uncommon for the lithium even after they are put out can reignite for hours after they have the fire has been put out. That being said the odds are very slim that it will happen but it does. They said if a lithium battery catches fire and your vehicle is garaged. Do everything in your power to move that vehicle away from any structures or other vehicles.

No they just stopped by to inspect my gas lines at my business and to update contact information in case of a fire.

We just had a house go up in flames down the street. Turned out it was from their electric car. Not from a Lithium phos battery in an ICE car. Anyway…. I actually defended the damn car (talking to neighbors). Can’t believe it ?. Only ASSumptions of the cause at this point buTT I did find out it was a Cadillac. Also, tons of EVs down here and haven’t heard of one going up randomly like this. Other than flooding - last hurricane.

Ok, guys, I finally got it installed. Piece of cake, actually.

Removed the old one, including that little grey "umbilical" cord, lol, and reinstalled the new one. 10mm bolts for the terminals and top bracket and the 13mm bolt for the bottom left bracket.

I did purchase the CTEK lithium charger/tender before the battery, so I hooked it up to the engine bay terminals after installation to keep it charged up while I went through the Bimmercode and Bimmerlink coding.

Did the 3 quick presses of the ignition to put it in Diagnostic Mode, buckled the seatbelt and turned all accessories off.

I fired up Bimmercode first. Clicked on ECU (Engine Control Unit), changed the Battery Capacity from 105Ah (OEM) to 70Ah (closest setting since mine is 68Ah), changed the Battery Type from AGM (OEM) to Lithium-ion then hit CODE.

Then for Bimmerlink, I just clicked on the Battery icon and since the 70Ah capacity was already preloaded, I just selected the "Same capacity and type" option and completed the registration.

Car started right up with no hiccups! Even all my settings and presets were still all saved and recognized. The only thing that took about 5 minutes to catch up was the clock and the parking sensor system.

This seems like a good choice, do you have an opinion, is it that same one you used and how has it continued to perform?

A friend lent me a Dewalt OBD2 device that supplies a charge to the ECU while you change your battery but I am thinking that I should do as you suggest and attach a battery tender device so I can plug the OBD2 thing for the Bimmer code app, was thinking of this one as that what Power Tex suggests

So I attach the tender, plug in the OBD2 thing and then replaced the battery with the new one, then do the programming steps you outline, is that all that there is to do?

Also on the Power Tex site there is this note, is there some sensor needed?

Yup. That looks like the one.

When I replaced mine, I don't remember them having any batteries for the Supra specifically, so I emailed them before purchasing their recommendation.

If I remember correctly, I just removed both terminals (negative first) and pulled out the OEM battery then replaced it with the new one. I don't remember hooking up any tenders or OBD2 port devices.

Just remember to code it correctly in BimmerLink after the install.

Is the sensor you're referring to that little black tube that runs from the battery to the side of the car's metal interior? I think that's just for AGM batteries, so you can just leave it dangling or remove it which is what I did.
