Final design discovered New Supra appearance countdown !!

New type Supra which will be revived to a high degree finally this winter ~ next spring.

In this paper, we will deliver the design and various specifications of mass-produced commercial cars as the final confirmation information. Also, I will organize the information that I have entered so far and introduce it in combination with the latest information. If you read this, it seems that the new SUPRA is quite clearly visible.
Sentence: Best car editing department best car From Mar. 10, 2018 issue "SUPER SPY SCOOP SUPRA Latest Information"

■ Design that also has innovation while leaving the ambience of the predecessor
Let's look at the final design that we found this time.

The overall form of the new SUPRA is based on the concept car "FT - 1" released in 2014, but in the impression received from the front headlight modeling, in the rear view, the top of the trunk lid is bounced up into a duck tail shape It is reminiscent of the A 80 type Supra (which was discontinued in 2002).

The new front bumper center nose design, which is the first two-seater model of the past, was shaped like the F1 machine at the beginning, but in the commercial model it has been changed to a skillfully sublimed design inheriting its elements.

The shape of the bubble roof rounded to the left and right in the center is also unique.

Although it shares a platform with the new BMW Z4, which is an open car, the new Supra, which is a closed body coupe, is given original designs and has a presence deserving Toyota's flagship sports.

The body size is 4380 × full width 1855 × total height 1290 mm and wheel base 2470 mm and shortens 140 mm from the A 80 SUPRA in total length, while the full width is 45 mm wide, the total height is raised by 15 mm.

In addition, although the wheelbase has been shortened by 70 mm, this seems to have been influenced by the fact that it was 5 seater up to A80 and 2 seater for the new model. Details of specs will be checked below.

■ Somewhat compact dimension than the predecessor
As well as the details of the exterior design that we talked about in the previous section, this time I also wanted to tell you the confirmed specifications of the new Supra as new information.

We have also reported specification information every time information comes in, but this time we got new confirmed information from body size to engine specifications.

As mentioned above, its body size is 4380 × full width 1855 × total height 1290 mm, wheel base 2470 mm. Although the new Supra has an image of "Toyota brand flagship sports", its body size is surprisingly small. Although it is a considerable wide form, the length is considerably shorter than the sports model of one generation ago, and it can be said that it is a compact size than imagined from this design.

The vehicle weight is 1388 ~ 1496 kg. It is about 20 kg heavier than Porsche 718 Boxster of roughly the same size.

There are 3 types of engine lineup. Both are made by BMW, 2L, 4 turbo engine of 2 types with different tuning and 3L 6 turbo are set.

The 3-liter turbo equipped with top grade generates 340 ps / 45.9 kgm. The maximum output is 326 ps in the current BMW 3 series, but it is powered up and installed in Supra.

Two types of 2L turbo generate 197 ps / 32.6 kgm and 258 ps / 40.8 kgm, respectively. As for the maximum speed, the 197 ps specification is 235 km / h, the 258 ps specification marks over 250 km / h (it is the same as 3 L because it is a limiter), 0 to 100 km / h acceleration acceleration is 6.6 s for the 2 L turbo 197 ps specification, 5.4 s for the 258 ps specification , The 3L turbo is said to be 4.8 seconds.

It is 3L turbo if you want powerfulness like the predecessor A80 type Supra, but even 2L turbo seems to be able to fully enjoy the pleasure of running.

All transmissions are 8 speed AT. There is no preparation of 3 pedals MT, the new Supra will be reborn as a full-fledged sports of adults.

Let's take a quick look at the history of "SUPRA" here
Supra was born in 1978. The first generation appeared as a senior model which extended the front nose based on the second generation Celica. Celica XX 's "X" serial which became a domestic model name was avoided as association degree of adults, and the export specification was given the name of SUPRA.

The history of the first Celica XX (1978 - 1981) / Supra (Japan specification until the second generation Celica XX) began with this model. All the successive top grades are NA & Turbo's straight six engines. The new model also inherits it

In 1981 Celica XX was FMC in the 2nd generation, but in Japan it became the Supra's car name from the A 70 type which is the third generation.

2nd generation Celica XX (1981 ~ 1986) / 2nd generation XX changed to sporty route

In the first generation and the second generation, 5M series 6DOHC equipped vehicles were top grade, but the third generation (the first car name is "SUPRA") that appeared in 1986 was the 6M 3M series straight type, the DOHCC Turbo, late type 1 JZ series straight 6, 2.5 L twin turbo top grade. To the 3L turbo of the former type was released in 1988, the 3.0 GT turbo A which was powered up by the adoption of the turbo A turbine for group A homologation is only available for 500 units.

First Supra (1986 - 1993) / independent from Celica. Late model with 6, 2.5 L turbo mounted

In 1993 it was fully remodeled to the final A80 type Supra. For the power train, 2 JZ series 6, 3 L, DOHC twin turbo was set as the top grade RZ etc etc.

2nd generation Supra (1993-2002) / Sports flagship at the time that still boasts high popularity

Along with Honda NSX, Nissan GT-R, Mazda RX-7, Mitsubishi GTO, etc., it is a robust engine that takes Toyota's image as a flagship sports car and takes high power, robust engine and body balance and suspension, somewhat charming A certain mask also helped to achieve a strong popularity, but in August 2002 production was terminated without being able to comply with the 2000 exhaust emission regulations.

Looking at the sizes of successive models, the total length has exceeded 4,600 mm from the first generation to the third generation, and the wheelbase also exceeded 2600 mm until the 2 nd generation, whereas the new model has the shortest total length and the wheel base Interesting. Along with the evolution of the powertrain, I would like to expect a lot for the new type of running.

Although it is a part of the repetition, the new Supra will first be released at the Geneva show (March 6, 17:45 Japan time) racing version, then at the New York show at the end of March or the subsequent motor show, Presentation, the schedule will be released in Japan at the end of this year ~ next spring.

As quoted from previous article...

"0 to 100 km / h acceleration acceleration is 6.6 s for the 2 L turbo 197 ps specification, 5.4 s for the 258 ps specification , The 3L turbo is said to be 4.8 seconds."

Am I missing something, 4.8 Seconds????

considering previously the magazine article said 3.8 seconds and that the weights are totally different, I think they are just yanking our chains..

You think the 3.8s was yanking our chains or the 4.8s? The 3.8s 60mph dash is completely unrealistic, unless it A) tips the scales at 2800lbs with 340hp, or B) pushes 400hp at 3300lbs. Neither of which are the case. Sadly the 4.8s 60mph time is probably closer to reality. Which is laughable if they call this a Supra.

For some perspective, the 3800lb 460hp 2018 GT with a brand new 10speed AT gets to 60mph in 3.8s. The 3700lb 455hp 2017 SS with an 8AT gets to 60mph in 3.9s. This thing won't be in the same ballpark.

I think they are yanking our chains in general, it is all to build hype and generate discussion. According to our insider curb weight for the top hipo/GR spec should be very competitive, potentially near the 86's weight, which is feasible since it is going to be a smaller 2 seater. Tada-san's quote are in line with this aspect:
Tetsuya Tada said:
What kind of car will the new Toyota Supra be?

'A Supra should be lighter than it’s rivals. Personally speaking, my favourite Porsche is the Boxster and Cayman, although I am a little disappointed with the four-cylinder engine. The Cayman helps a lot of us here to make a sports car.'
I agree 340 HP doesn't sound like much even for a lighter chassis but keep in mind the torque is what we really want to know and I'm anticipating it to be plenty.
