I got my dream car yesterday! 2024 GR MT. I was about to buy a cover for my car but then started reading that might not be the best idea. In the winter it rains a lot here (Vancouver Island Canada). I understand putting a cover on, if the car is not clean, is not a good idea but if its very clean is it ok? Here its cold in the winter with rain, very similar to Seattle but I do get less rain. I have a jeep to drive in bad weather. I did get the ceramic coating.

I regret I do not have enough space to buy a "car port" type tent cover.

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've never used an outdoor car cover before, but my brother uses one full time for his Acura Integra Type-S. He's had it now for 2 years and his paint is in very good condition still. However, he still washes his car regularly, and does a pretty good job keeping the car cover (on the underside, very clean). If you're that concerned about micro scratches from small abrasions caused by dirt particles... PPF the car.

edit: Also, congrats on the new car!

most folks have a garage when they have a dedicated sports car.

As long as the car is clean/dry and you put a cover on it that won't scratch you should be ok.

I would honestly be more concerned with rodents making nest in the car as it would sit most of the winter...maybe some moth balls around to keep them out....and you would have to connect it to a battery tender so you need to be close to an outlet.

Thanks for the comments. I wont have this car sit most of winter because it only snows/ice here about 1-3 times a year and I get 50% less rain than Seattle and Vancouver. I plan to drive this Supra semi-daily using my Jeep when its poor weather. I would not let it sit more than a week without driving it.

I might try to get a car port tent thing into my parking space, I might just be able to fit one in there if I find the right size.

But rodents are a concern, you are right. I have heard mint oil on cotton balls works....but idk

If you have a cover on your car, clean or not:
IF there is prolonged wind on it at all, it WILL leave micro abrasions on any edge lines due to friction. Ask me how I know..Actually don't plz. 🫣😬😭

Yea I get it. I have had a cover on my jeep for years but its old and scratched so I never really noticed. I might try to rent an indoor spot, not sure yet. I found many spots for rent but nothing close buy. Perhaps a car port thing not sure. I wont bother with the cover idea now.

I have this:
https://www.calcarcover.com/product/superweave-car-cover/3937
I’ll post pic when I can.
car is ceramic. You MUST wash car before putting cover on. My black supra has Zero scratch. If this is your route, change the the stock brembo pads to something else. car takes 10 minutes to wash/dry but the rims makes extra 15 minutes with stock pads, now it takes me extra 5 minutes with ceramic pads. I use rinse less car wash. There was a thread I made i made on it a while ago.
while your at it, pick up the LZ guards for the front.

Thank you! So the stock brake pads take too long to dry? what about driving for like 15 minutes to dry things? Im lucky in that where I live the water hardness is close to zero.... might be a good thing for rinse, let dry etc

Stock pad dusky as hell and gets dusky quick. If you don’t wash off brake dusk than it gets on car cover At the wheel area. Takes around 3 minutes to wash a wheel with all the dust. Switch to ceramic pads and dusk drops over 95%. You can wash the dusk off around 45 seconds a wheel. I wash at least once a week And every time before car cover goes on. My Supra is a weekend car in south Florida. I don’t put cover on if a storm with winds greater than 35 mph is expected. If hurricane comes I park it in garage at work.

I like this, I have a underground secure work parking, its just 4miles away. It will work for serious weather days. I have also already arranged a second secure underground spot, its just not close and I didnt pay up for it yet.
