Going back to this business practice made me wonder something

The only way this works is if they supply a 47k GT car at 300-335hp and 3400 lbs but acceptable in its class.

Tada's version has to exist somewhere as a trim upgrade as the GRMN or something at 60k.
But I cant wait another 2-3years hoping that trim will make it to production
If this garbage hits for $60k, zero chance it sells, 100% chance they will trash any plans for any meaningful refresh, let alone a more expensive hi-po version. That Sti BRZ everyone knew was coming never arrived, and that platform actually moved a decent amount of cars.

Even at a lower price, imagine paying $47k or $50k for what is essentially a new Toyota 370z. No way they move metal.

Plus, if the specs are to be believed (I believe, and I've been in the hopeful camp forever), how much better could a GRMN car even be? Cut max 50lbs, add max 50 horsepower, a few more fake vents, cost another $20k. whoop-dee-doo.

Time to cry, FT1 died.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

i think its funny that everyone is now so concern about the weight. like half of the people here wanted the new Supra to be a "real GT" and based on the 4,280 lb / 1941 kg LC. my biggest beef with these "leaks" is the price... way too high imo.

I think people were becoming resigned to the fact that this was going to be a sub-400 horsepower car. So the only hope was that it was going to be a lightweight car as had been rumored for a very long time.

Now it's pretty much confirmed we're not only getting an underpowered car, but a fat bloated underpowered car. No resemblance to FT1 at all.

They were seen testing a 997 and a cayman as a benchmark.

Unless that was for s mr2 sequel

Guff did post that we should expect it to be closer to 380hp.

it may not have the same proportions, but it definitely has FT1 styling cues.

Well, I meant if this was a way to let the enemies guard down from trying anything funny, then they are doing a good job with some strange specs. It just feels weird when even A70 confirned some bad news on the matter and Guff had to update it.

I want something from Toyota, anything at this point
Fair, we might not get anything from Toyota. I got a feeling everything will be alright it wont be as bad as everyone puts it. And honestly, we're a terrible bunch. Enthusiasts are hard to please, there's too many factors that can go wrong here. It might upset one person and not the other. But I know they are watching :)

I'm not hard to please, just follow the cheif engineer's mission who helped give a new platform to Toyota/Subaru that is causing waves in the aftermarket/tuning market.

If Tada wanted a 3000 lbs car with impressive handling that challlenges the MR/ RR layout they have, that should say something, especially with the money and development costs split between BMW and Toyota.

i voted no. lets say the rumors of 350hp w/ a weight of 3,300lbs are true. the specs are too bad, but i can't see myself paying $60k+ for it. at that price range i would rather go with a C7. so if the rumors are true i think Toyota needs to price it under the C7. otherwise it will be DOA and collecting dust at dealers like the new NSX.

Toyota should look at the new NSX and learn something.. just cause you bring a name back.. doesn’t mean it’ll be successful.

Guff effectively summarized what I said to him, but something worth consideration is that my source (someone that works with Tada on and off constantly) mentioned that the car did gain some weight over the mules due to TSS and options, but he did not know the exact number.

After looking into component weights, I personally believe the car is still less than 3300lbs, but not by a lot. I'd put it at 3250 if I had to guess. Then again it depends on exactly what options they ended up going with.

Next, we have seen that the Z4 is supposed to make 380hp stateside (elsewhere?) due to lack of an emissions particulate filter required in Europe, and maybe it's safe to say the Supra will also make 380hp in the US and 335 in EU. This would also give some credence to the original rumors I had heard of the car being 380hp. We could also discuss overboost, but as said by others, that's more just a stupid marketing term for either cam change or slightly more boost at certain rpm to increase tq.

So, what if the car is 3250 with 380hp? where does that put us in the grand scheme of things? Is 63k still too much?

What if I said the msrp is actually $60k?

(purely hypothetical of course...........)

If that's the case it's closer to my predictions ;)

that does sound a little better, but i would still prefer the choice of having less options and maybe a $50k ish range price tag.
