Same here over the labor day weekend. 2021 3.0 premium after 4200 miles, add a quater oil notification. Went to the dealership and had them documented everything. They told me that as long as the break-in was followed through, their manual said will be fine. I did properly broken it in, drove moderately most of the time, but still, at 4200 miles it's a bit chilling to get the message.

I just finished the oil consumption test Toyota set for me..
Drive the car in normal mode for 1000-1200 miles n see what oil was used...
Well I drive about 1150 miles n used 1/2 quart...
Today they told me that is perfectly normal...

Are you f n kidding me...
So in sport mode I can assume I'll use 1 quart every 1000 miles...
In what world is this normal in a brand new car...

So just guessing between oil changes (5000 mile intervals) I'm gonna use 3-4 quarts of oil.....NORMAL?...

Whatever...every time I need to be top up you can bet it'll be going to them to do it...

I actually contemplated sell the car back to them...they only offered me $53k...this is for an a91 edition with 5400 miles...
NO THANKS...

Steve

2021 3.0 Premium. ~1900 miles w/ original oil, still full. Easy to moderate driving the first 600-800 miles. I've done several launches and highway pulls since I hit 1200. Purchased mine in late January this year, 11/2020 build date.

Welp I didn’t want to ever have to post on here but I knew what I was in for.

06/21 build date, easy break in till 1400. Never had any oil loss until I beat it on the drag strip (ran 11.9 btw)

currently at 1850 miles, stock oil. Is this Normal consumption?

Make sure you’re on level ground. I have around the same mileage and mine is still at the full line.

2021 3.0 @1100 miles and zero oil burn that I can tell. Checked yesterday and the level was at the top.
Did drive the car hard at times, but for not long at any one time. red line within 100 miles easily.

Uh yeah... calling BS on that (them, not you obviously). I understand what the BMW acceptable levels are per the manual... but really? They also stipulate a 10K mile interval in the same manual.

Maybe that's how they can justify that interval... after all you'll have added 9qts during that time so even the oldest oil will only have 7K miles on it. Half of it will have 4K or fewer miles. :dunno:

Or I guess an even better question is... why does mine (and the majority of 2020's) not burn any at all. I do at least 80% driving in sport mode (although not hard driving, mostly) because I've set it to start in sport and usually just leave it there unless going out of town. Getting ready for a change at 7K now... right up to the line with nothing added - running factory water 0W20!

Sooo... a slightly higher tune and some minor changes to the head design means way more oil burn? It's either that or us MY20 guys are the ones with "broken" engines - since burning oil that much is "normal" right?

What’s beat on it, 2 passes/ 20 passes?

Need to start monitoring it more closely.

5 passes, back to back with burnouts. I have a c8 too and that car can get domestic abuse daily and still drive like it’s brand new.. getting scared of the bmw

hopefully switching to 0w-30 this week fixes it

Not 1/3 rd low and almost 2000 miles with track use. Thats not a burn problem based on BMW's own guidance. Just monitor it. BMW is up front about oil use in these motors. Im surprised people dont understand the guidance from BMW and the km'/mile useage numbers.

Its a street car and not completely designed from day 1 from the track. At excessive speed and temp one might expect a touch of use. Yours is not at all out of spec. Better than spec it appears.

Again too much over thinking on this subject. Add a touch and drive/enjoy. Its a car.

Still burning about a quart every 3-4 track days. So like once a month or so
Not a daily, in fact it rarely gets driven "normal"
What tw rating are you doing your track days on? I'd say that looks like great consumption numbers for a 200tw compound.

Your consumption is identical to mine. I managed to get 4,500 miles before the light went on. The dealership only added 3/4 quart, and the car showed full again. The people on the BMW M340, and M240 are having the exact same issues as the Supra.

My oil level was down 1/4 quart at 3,900kms (2,400miles), and down 1/2 quart at 4,400kms (2,700miles). So I decided to do an experiment. I grabbed my wife's measuring cup from the kitchen :) , and poured exactly 200ml 1/5 quart (roughly) into the cup. I put the oil into the engine. The electronic dipstick said I was down 1/2 quart before I put the oil in. I drove around for about 30 minutes, and checked it again, and it's at full. These dipsticks are not accurate. When my low oil light came on a few months ago, I took it to Toyota, and the tech only put 3/4 quart, and it read full. These cars are consuming less oil than what the dipstick says IMO.

I saw the same indicator level your car is showing in this picture on my 2021 before my first oil change as well, but I didn't see it go to this level until right at 3,200 miles. I continued driving for a couple of weeks afterwards, beating on the car every day and it never left this sport before my first oil change. BMW Engines are known to burn a bit of oil, you're most likely fine.
