Had a bit of an incident on the track. Keep in mind that this was in the advanced group. Also keep in mind that track etiquette differs from country to country. E.g. we don't do point-bys here. In fact you have to keep your windows up.
You did nothing wrong, just forget about those fools.

With time I understood the best is to let people pass, even if they are just a fraction faster than you, so you can hunt them down and learn from them.

That's always been my philosophy too.

It only backfired on me once when I let a Porsche pass and thought "let me follow his line" and they drove right off the track. ?

They should know where you are at, at all times. Especially at the speed they were going. That’s driving (body) language would be yelling at me in the advanced group, pass pass pass…. That’s the sense I get in that video. When you paused between cars, it appears you were looking for a point by and might have giving some hesitation to that driver. Regardless, he’s got to know where your are at. Car awareness is the main requirement in any advanced group. Not how fast you can go around the track ? That last driver needs to be talked to and possibly demoted if he can’t explain why he didn’t see you or think otherwise.

You obviously have to keep drifting left to avoid him and drive off if you didn’t thing you could get around. Dangerous man…. And they were going slow enough to pit, imo.
Agreed on all fronts

That's how i think about it too.

I have unfortunately only gotten to do track time on those two days last September at ABCC, however, I noticed right away when I was stuck behind someone slow that I started to follow their line which was not ideal so I almost immediately trained my eyes to somewhat ignore the car in front of me and pay more attention to my line if that makes sense?

Glad I got to experience it early though just because I feel like it definitely helped keep me from creating a bad habit if I ever got stuck behind someone that may be barely slower than me and stuck behind them for multiple laps without getting a wave by (which actually also happened way to many times that weekend)

I realized what was happening to the Porsche pretty quickly and I managed to only go 2 wheels off instead of straight off. That guy was a 911 and this was in my old q60. I had another Porsche, a boxster this time, that wouldn't give me a point by for 5 laps until they finally gave him the let them pass flag. I'm sure he was thinking "I can't let an Infiniti pass me." ?

Now if someone is being an ass about letting me pass, I just pit and ask for space. Better than being annoyed lap after lap.

It’s funny, I’ve seen sun visors and other signs/notes in cars that say look ahead ?. These guys are serious about driving and that’s so spot on. Your peripheral vision is more acute to sudden movement and better than most people think. So totally agree -always look ahead- where you want to go. Or you will end up heading in the direction of the other car (or tree or wall) or whatever/ wherever you’re looking :bump:

And pitting in to let traffic go by is the best way George, if you’re with a bunch of drivers at your same speed or not allowing a point by. Luckily Sebring is big enough, you don’t need to ask anyone. Just pull in through the pits, show your band to the pit out crew and go back out again. You won’t see those cars again unless you’re in the wrong group (or they are).

Anyone else have a specific preference for ride height in our car on track?
Did you ever get an answer for this? Currently looking at Ohlins and 18x11 295/35 square setup, wanted to know what the best height would be.

In short, it depends. You want just high enough where you don’t rub. Coilover designs, aftermarket arms/subframes, weight variations, alignment, spring rate, preload, wheel/tire setup and the type of track will all affect ride heights.

I could go a pinch lower at Sebring (for example) being flat and only divots & bumps from the road surface. If I was at the lowest Sebring setting (which I’m not), I’d have to raise her for Homestead, for ingress and egress of the high speed banking areas.

I asked AI ? (I’ve been digging this lately) and the summary it gave me for my car: “ride height must be customized based on suspension hardware, weight, alignment goals, and tire fitment. For Öhlins-equipped Supras, prioritize spring perch adjustments over damper body changes, and pair with Verkline components only after verifying kinematics. Always test at full compression and realign after adjustments”

I have some time to decide before my square (18x10.5) wheels arrive in June, but i can't figure out if i want to go with 295s or start with 275s and see how that feels before adding more rubber.

I would do 275 on 10.5
tbh i haven't even taken my wheel width into consideration. a 295/30/18 would fit very nicely on a 10.5" wheel, no? The recommended min/max wheel width for that tire size is 10/11.

The way i was going about this was thinking about the power (will be running OEM turbo for now, E30, so around 460whp or a bit more), the weight of the car, how much tire it could realistically run etc....

Am i going about that wrong way?

Would 295/30 really be too much tire vs a 275/35 on this kind of setup/wheel?

Just a heads up that the AJHartman canards can trigger the parking sensors. In his installation video, AJ mentions that you should tape the canard on, and drive around to confirm it doesn't trigger. The video then proceeds to drill the top canard's leading edge at the midpoint of the reflector. I did the same thing, and found that I needed to mount the canard at about 1/4 of the way down, rather than 1/2 to avoid it randomly going off while on an empty road. Driving around is fine, but I've noticed that it will sometimes trigger when oncoming cars drive past (for example, when you're in a left turn lane).

New topic. Did jackie ding ever post a video of the fender (c-pillar?) mount for his wing? it looks like he switched it awhile ago, but I honestly didn't notice until just recently.
