This Program will be offered until June 31, 2027, and will only be available at an authorized Toyota dealer.

That settles it for me. I’ll wait and see if my fav independent mechanic needs it. Right now he can reset or do about anything with his SnapOn mobile device/computer. Last thing I want is for only Toyota to be able to service her (hold my car hostage) and the DCM becomes obsolete to aftermarket devices.

Happened when I first got the car. They had to wait for certain code fixes to roll out (SnapOn for example) to fix certain problems/codes that would arise. This may have nothing to do with it at all ?‍♂. However, the last thing I want is my car thinking it needs TPMs or brake pad sensors attached to function, to name a few.

My thoughts…. more likely a legal necessity. Such as sending EMS ? if someone became incapacitated is likely their main reason. Imagine the ambulance chasers (lawyers) salivating ? when/if someone became injured, claimed that service is why they bought the car & it would have saved them (gotten help to the scene sooner). Total bullshit but bet it would work in a court of law. Had this letter not been sent. At least here in the US

Is there any other reasons why I’d be in a rush to do this???

If I get this update done and I am tuned on BM3 will I just be able to reinstall my tune or will I have to repurchase and re-tune? I get that I’ll probably need to unlock the ECU again but mine is a 2020 so that’s not a huge deal breaker.

I’m thinking about doing it since somebody here said they also update to the latest ISTEP and I heard that fixes the throttle hesitation issue.

Don’t hold your breath. It was said the brake booster recall fixed the throttle hesitation as well… which it didn’t.

BM3 will probably have to reset your account for you new rom ID, and if custom tuned, that tune will need to be moved to the new rom ID.

I just went through this whole ordeal beginning of the year after I updated my Supra to the latest ISTEP via ISTA.

I’m not going to say I know for sure because I don’t, however, I did go through essentially this same thing about a year ago at Subaru because I work in the service dept at said dealership.

At least on those, the only thing that got touched or modified was the dcm itself and if what I’m reading in the letter is anything like how it worked in the Subaru world I would recommend everyone getting this done. I’ve seen a whole ton of cars come in over the last year who did not get the update done that have pretty large parasitic drains on their vehicle because this module continues searching for the disabled 3g network and because it can’t establish a connection it just keeps searching and drains the car battery.

Again, not saying I know how it will work on our Supras, but on the subbies the only thing that was changed or modified was the dcm software. Best bet would be to call up a dealer and see if they’ve done it and ask one of the advisors for more info if they’re aware. They SHOULD be able to pull up the bulletin and read through the notes to see exactly what is changed or altered

the car's communications are not working correctly is actually a good thing. Toyota won't invade your privacy and insurance companies won't get your driving data either. Forget this update LOL

Just talked with my favorite Supra Tech. He's only done one of these updates, and of course it was a stock vehicle. However, he did say that most likely an unlocked DME would be re-locked because the iLevel (that's what it's called in Toyotaland) essentially does a full system sweep anytime it's hooked up. Anything off or out of date will need to be updated to continue.

Also, just don't bother with this recall at all if you never visit your Toyota Service Center. Definitely not worth losing your tune over.

Just confirmed, zero doubt. Saw the I-Level screenshots with my own eyes. This update WILL delete your tune and re-lock the DME.

Whats the I-level or ISTEP?

Based on the recall letter description, it sounds like something related to the Supra connect app ect.

Or is it a program/tool that is needed to communicate with the car in order to reset major services/codes?
