Wasn't 3G already phased out in 2022? The wording on the letter is weird and makes it sound like it's not sunsetted yet. Vehicle location still works in the Supra app, so I assume it is connected to 4G just fine.

My guy is doing the recall on a 2021 2.0 right now, and will send me the iStep numbers...however I can't promise they're gonna be the same as a 3.0. I'll post them either way for ya'll...

yes
I asked them today about the ECU and they said no but I don't trust that they really know. They said only the specific module.
How do you opt out of the data collection for the Supra?

I can't remember if I did it, just want to double check.
the car's communications are not working correctly is actually a good thing. Toyota won't invade your privacy and insurance companies won't get your driving data either. Forget this update LOL
Whats the I-level or ISTEP?

Based on the recall letter description, it sounds like something related to the Supra connect app ect.

Or is it a program/tool that is needed to communicate with the car in order to reset major services/codes?
Yeah, why do I want this? So they know my driving habits and location even more than they do.
i'm surprised bryan hasn't responded so i will nerd it up and address some of these

Toyota Supra Services is provided by BMW ConnectedDrive. i have yet to see anything regarding BMW and reporting to insurance, scandals, etc. so we're fine

regarding toyota, yes: https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/thre...-policy-because-i-went-to-the-ups-store.4722/

next,
nowhere using ISTA did i see how to update a single module. any software update will update ALL modules: BDC, DME (your ECU), DSC, head unit, etc. however, you can test a single module for issues

context: https://www.supramkv.com/threads/an...doing-istep-update-yourself.13044/post-359616

ALSO, let's say you want this recall and your iStep is updated to 03-24 and beyond. the Bimmercode start/stop memory function will not work. i have yet to flash xHP again so i don't know if xHP's feature works on 03-24+

Thank you. I asked Precision Toyota here in Tucson, AZ and they said only the module and nothing else but I would bet you are right. It would be part of a package and my Supra is not locked and I don't want it locked.

This is 100% right
Thanks! If you find a 3.0 please post because that number is still lower than that latest one I posted above.

AFAIK if you really want to update without updating all modules, you can flash/update only one module to a newer one using E-Sys

This Program will be offered until June 31, 2027, and will only be available at an authorized Toyota dealer.

That settles it for me. I’ll wait and see if my fav independent mechanic needs it. Right now he can reset or do about anything with his SnapOn mobile device/computer. Last thing I want is for only Toyota to be able to service her (hold my car hostage) and the DCM becomes obsolete to aftermarket devices.

Happened when I first got the car. They had to wait for certain code fixes to roll out (SnapOn for example) to fix certain problems/codes that would arise. This may have nothing to do with it at all ?ā€ā™‚. However, the last thing I want is my car thinking it needs TPMs or brake pad sensors attached to function, to name a few.

My thoughts…. more likely a legal necessity. Such as sending EMS ? if someone became incapacitated is likely their main reason. Imagine the ambulance chasers (lawyers) salivating ? when/if someone became injured, claimed that service is why they bought the car & it would have saved them (gotten help to the scene sooner). Total bullshit but bet it would work in a court of law. Had this letter not been sent. At least here in the US

Is there any other reasons why I’d be in a rush to do this???
I emailed my service advisor and here's the cut n paste reply: 'It is open recall. It is a safety recall per Toyota, but you are not forced to do it.' He then added it will take 2-3 hours. It looks like we were all leaning toward a "no" on this recall, but that 2-3 hour time he quoted me definitely swayed me away.

Im sure they will partner with LexisNexis before you know it. And then all this data will be available

Reinforcing my worse fears. I could always call my insurance co, Toyota or whomever they want to share all this juicy info with on the black market myself, when I’m ready. *guess I’m not as ready for a full blown EV (computer with wheels - even if it is a Tesla) as I once thought - I’m such a dinosaur ??*

Plus, I can’t imagine pulling up to my local Toyota dealer service lane and handing over the keys to my loud ass catless dp, AWE track exhaust, with all the other bolt on goodies. I don’t even have the correct (recommended Toyota brand) oil in the car ? ?

Last month I had my oil changed at the dealer and when I handed over the car, a tech got in to take it back to the service area and he must’ve been trying to hit the brake but he mashed the gas and revved the shit out of the engine. I have a basically stock car, I do have an mst intake and I pulled the fuse on the exhaust valve so it’s a bit louder than stock. It was still loud af (this was indoors) and I couldn’t imagine that happening with a catless dp.
Furthermore, since I was there, I actually asked them about updating the software as I heard it maybe fixes the throttle hesitation and did other good stuff and they gave me the biggest runaround - even explicitly said well there is no recall I can find - and now I get this recall notice they want to update the software. Hilarious. Twice now I have been to the service department (well 3 times bc the first time they forgot to order the oil change kit) and every time I go in thinking it will be different
