I like where this convo has gone.. Some things to think about...

The 2019 Cayman GT4 is rumored to have a detuned NA GT3 motor somewhere in the ballpark of 400-425 HP revs somewhere close to 9k!. If the Supra comes out with anything to compete with that it will surely be awesome! Even more awesome is if they come in priced somewhere around or under where the GTR was priced $60-70K when it debuted.

I can deff see this as being the Gazoo Racing production version of a GT-fighter. Large fixed wing, lighter, carbon weight savings & trimmings, limited electronics, lightweight wheels and top spec tires mated together with a sweet manual gear box or choice of DCT.

The car would weigh as close to 3,000 pounds as possible and be sold in super low production numbers.

Ahh yes one could only imagine :)

There should be a limiter if a GRMN version exists. A 450 HP car that can rev to 8k, or even 8.5k? Might be like the LFA that tells you how far the car can be revved at.

Speaking of, what about the interior? I don't think our sindiers could help but going back to the LFA and LC500 spaceship like experience, what could this car have?

A video of the older prototype, but they are definitely using the Cayman as a benchmark.

^ yeah but there's also a 911 spotted at the 1:23+ mark. It's believed these mules are running around with the B58/S58 engine(s) at that time especially. It would be crazy if Toyota has some of these themselves running around against their developed engine (M2/3 like car with a lighter chasis vs the upcoming Supra with a new inline 6).

If it can outperform the earlier mules it might even be a 911 competitor at this point. Tada did confirm they were targeting Porsche but no specific model. If it does come with 400+ HP that could be possible even if they won't target it that way to the public.

Interestingly, the 997 GT3 does anywhere from a 7:33 - 7:43 lap of the ring, and forum insiders have previously said the "330hp B58" mule has done a 7:40 around the ring... so perhaps the older gen GT3 as a benchmark isn't far off the mark.

Imagine the GRMN model capabilities :p

If this is a 811 killer at 55k, lord have mercy

mules and production are two seperate things, but it should be interesting to see things play out...

This is incredibly disappointing to hear. The Supra is going to be completely non-competitive in the market at these price/performance levels.
????

A 3000lbs or sub 3000lbs car pumping 350 hp or more with add ons from the factory to boost its performance by another 100 HP? Not including the mods that can be done? At 55k?

I don't think it's going to be DOA, and if anything, have another renaissance of GT86 and Miata levels of customization.

Sub 3k curb weight with anything over 350hp would be a delight. Just throw in that manual and Iā€™ll build another garage to keep that thing...

I look at it this way.. a 385hp 01 Z06 with 3k curb weight was such a monster that till today itā€™s an amazing car to own / drive. If this car has all of that and a much better steering and suspension.. itā€™ll be an instant hit.

$55k is base Corvette pricing so lets compare : 455 hp, 460 torques, 3298 lbs, w/p 7.24

Supra (per A70): ~375 hp, likely 330-350 torques with i6(?), ~3050 lbs, w/p 8.13

Buyers will have to decide if the Vette's power advantage is worth trading off for the Supra's lighter weight, smaller form factor, Toyota reliability.

Corvettes are very reliable. So I donā€™t see toyota having an edge on that. Iā€™ve had two vettes and have a C7Z now. Cool cars. I think the Supra will drive nicer basing it on how nicely my RWD 8spd IS350 Fsport drives. So Iā€™m hoping for a great driving car with decent power and a manual. This car will do.

Toyota's trying to come at Porsche, not Corvette and last time I checked here in NJ, I see a whole lot more Porsches than Corvettes, at varying trims. I feel like the A80, the car will be capped at 276 in Japan or something similar, but come to America with a different HP variant or a specific trim to combat the market.

Straight from the wiki.
The turbocharged variant could achieve 0ā€“60 mph in as low as 4.6 seconds and 1/4-mile (402 m) in 13.1 seconds at 109 mph (175 km/h).[19] The turbo version was tested to reach over 285 km/h (177 mph), but the cars are restricted to just 180 km/h (112 mph) in Japan and 250 km/h (155 mph) elsewhere. European versions of the car also had an air intake or scoop on the hood. Drag coefficient is 0.31 for the naturally aspirated models and 0.32 for the turbo models but unknown with the rear spoiler.

That's with a 3500 lb monster of a car, imagine five hudnred pounds less with refinement?

Even the JDM A80 models had more than 276hp, that was just marketing. They were closer to 330hp.
My almost stock (with a 3" exhaust and FMIC) '99 RZ cranked out 314whp on a dyno, so there you go.

Either way, with a diet and track focus, will be awesome.
