Im going to reignite this thread, as I am having clunking issues, I will follow up if this helps. Ive made numerous posts about strut bearing "failure" on this forum only to be left in the same spot after changing suspension. I hope this is the solution we all need.

Well its easy and cheap so ..nothing to lose. You will know if this is your issue if you find the thrust bush is difficult to pull out. several months on for me now and not a single clunk. Good Luck bud.

i did an install of "powerflex adjustable front radius arm to chasssis bushings" yesterday and did a full alignment and also started to hear this same clunking noise
i have the same problem like above ? using the tool should fix it ?
is it safe to drive the car until i do the fix or im doing more damage?

IMHO safe to drive , i thinks its one of those small excessive tolerance that sound worse than they are ... re-greasing is easy enough .. but if you nip up the cap a little ... 1/8th to 1/16th of a turn and sound goes then this indicate the the bush is the issue ... still prob needs removing and re-greasing then ..... one point is to carefully note how wound in the cap is and after re-greasing replace to same level..

if your car is LHD, i believe you need the lift.

If it is RHD, just remove intake.

I will add you need to look at the spring clearance up on the inside of the strut tower - back side. There are ribs in the strut tower. If you have put more camber in it with a camber plate or control arms, or lowering springs, it will rub especially when sharply turned, so the spring makes a clunking sound. I expect it is this. Also look how the spring is seated - if it spins in the rubber boot at the bottom then the coil can get closer to the rib and rub. I have have taken the struts on an off several times now, first with sport spring and camber plate on stock shock, and then now with coil overs. So check this. The only other thing with clunking is loose control arm bolts so if these are good I am willing to bet it is the spring clearance.

Removing the screw was easy ... i did it under the car ( removing the skid plates ) ..
Where is it located exactly? I’m trying to tighten it to see if that’ll fix the clunking in mine.

UPDATE: FIXED

Well i got the tool and set to work ... very luckily RHD cars all you need to do is remove airbox ( 2 min job) and the adjuster is in front of you ... see pic

image0 (2).jpeg

it wasnt tight ... and easily tightened with a socket wrench ... i initially turned in clockwise 1/8th of a turn but this was too much and made the steering a little stiff ... i backed it off and really only turned it 1/16th of a turn clockwise ( about 5mm ) ... and hey presto .... no more noise .

I drove and NO CLUNKING noise and also car doesn't "wander around" or "tramline" as much ...

amazing such a tiny adjustment makes so much difference. ive calculated it actually pushed the thrust bush just 0.092mm extra causing a better fit from the rack to the pinion gear.

PERFECT !!

I would also recommend getting alignment done on the supra as almost everyone says they are off almost straight from factory .. and uneven across an axle that makes it even worse ... but this thrust adjustment wont effect alignment settings.

Also these supra ALREADY has the modified bush as in the repair kit so all you need it the tool from ebay ... LHD cars you will need to drop the skid plate under the car to have access to the adjuster but its a simple task and can be done by jacking up one side of the car.
Oh man, I've been dealing with this sound for months. How has this fix served you over time? I just changed my brake pads and the sound went away for about 48 hours and just returned, now i'm on a mission to get it fixed after much failure.

Mine happens over bumps at low speed and when the weight of my car shifts when coming to a complete stop.

Well i have not had the Clunking for over a year now ... as i said in my thread .. the clunking is more noticeable over uneven ground ... my thrust bush was completely stuck in old hard grease once lubed was fine.

I may have a similar issue. Recently it seems like there's a "force feedback" coming from the left front wheel but it's mostly noticeable on the steering wheel. The feeling is like there is a one time "hit" from the left side of the steering wheel with a subjective clatter noise. I never hit any hole in the road but suspension's geometry was corrected in the dealership maybe 5 months ago, due to NOK factory alignment. My 1st thought was dealership didn't tight something correctly but I started digging into this subject and I got on this post. This happens frequently, when driving straight even on the good condition road, doesn't happen during turning, etc. so that's why I was considering not tightened top mount or something like this but now I'm thinking it may be the steering gear/column. Did anyone experienced similar issue? I'm going to check suspension on my own this week but I'd like to avoid going to the dealership and leaving them the car, especially that they would have to drive it a bit in order to witness this "force feedback" themselves.

I took a picture of the steering gear in the area mentioned in this post and I see grease film on it, car has only 5700km, shall I see the service?

Toyota WONT service the rack ... just replace it ..but thats not and easy job and they will probably cause more issues ... if you try to adjust it yourself be very aware a very small amount is required.

I second this. Do it in VERY SMALL AMOUNTS. I am still adjusting mine to not be too tight. You will 100% know if it's too tight as the "self-centering" that happens when you turn and start to unwind the wheel and go straight no longer happens. Makes the far feel "sticky".

Also for people wondering where it is located on LHD models. Here are some reference photos I shot awhile back when I was under my car.

This is after taking off the metal undertray:
