That was a rumor even within the company and Tada did consider different names for both the 4 and 6 cylinder versions.

As to why they didn't do it, I think there likely wasn't enough differentiation between them aside from engine (would sort of be odd these days) and also the fact that Celica became something entirely different late 80s and forward. Plus, it's more work overall having to market two separate models and the fact that the 4cyl was designed to meet a certain target in parts of the EU/Asia...

It also ended up being a better decision for Japan, as the 4cyl became the modern replacements for SZ and SZ-R.

Do you have any idea what production numbers are for the first year global and region?

I do not unfortunately. I had the info for US iirc, but I don't even remember what the figure was.

Sorry if it was discussed but what about future release of more powerful versions and maybe a 6MT?

The GRMN will be more powerful but is unlikely to be available in manual from what has been communicated.

If a manual is available, it will be in the standard car most likely.

Yeah, that sounds odd to me. At this rate I wouldn't expect them to even put a manual in the base Supra either. The manual in the GRMN was supposed to give us hope that there would be a manual in the GR Supra.

That's fine with me. The aftermarket is there for us to make our own "GRMN" version.

So the grmn would be pointless then? Makes one wonder if they'll actually do a grmn or was it just to hype people up lol.

No the GRMN will be for those who don't wanna modify their car and wants the factory to do it for them. Like a Nismo GTR compared to a base model.
